Most are , but some can be almost flat , or they can be turned down front and back (but Flanged) Safari Style .
Hat makers use a tool called a "flange" to shape a hat's brim and to determine the amount of curvature it will have, i.e. that upwards "curl" or "cupping" at the brim's edge. Fedoras generally have a relatively "deep flange", which is what allows the wearer to snap the brim up or down in the front, hence the term "fedora flanged". By comparison to a regular Campdraft, RM Williams' version has a relatively flat brim....Question: What is fedora flanged?

So if probably like the RM better with the flatter brim.

As has been stated, most CampDrafts have a curl pressed into the brim by a tool called a flange. This gives the brim the ability to make varied shapes. Most use a downward snap to the front and an upward snap in the rear which is common to fedoras.
However, the RM Williams version of the CampDraft (And yes, they do refer to it as a CampDraft in their literature in spite of the color and flanging differences.) has less curl because it is often intended to be turned down all the way around or have just a slight upward snap to the rear - if desired. I prefer to have the neck protection so I turn down. This CampDraft is a stiffer hat which takes some getting used to, but is quite durable and takes the shape of your head in time and is not uncomfortable. Also not quite as pleasing at the other CampDrafts that I own. The color is great. Rich brown with slight gray effect as the light hits the felt edges. Pouncing is far superior to other CDs. Uniform all over and pleasing to the touch. No pouncing gaps. Hatband, coachman's cord/wind trolley and sweat are identical to Imperial CampDrafts.
When dealing with RM Williams, be very blunt and exact about telling them the size desired. Tell them that you expect them to verify the size on a block and do a general quality inspection before shipping. They sent me a mismarked Akubra that was huge - Size 60 rather than the 58 which was ordered and marked. It is a bit late after the item has been shipped halfway around the world to correct the production error and failure to detect the error. That was a sore issue for me and I would prefer to not have you experience a repeat of their negligence.
Even so, I got a great hat for a good.
I would do the same with Hats Direct who sent me a defective CampDraft. Only Sam at Everything Australian is without any issues - likely because I understand that he looks at every hat personally before shipping.
Make them do it right up front.

Thanks fed for all the info!!!! I really do like that color of the RM. And I've read how good the sweat is on the Imperial.
It might be wise for me to get one of each, a CD and RM... You know, just so I truly do know the difference!! At least that's how I'll explain it to the wife. She might go with that excuse. You think? Hahaha. ))

You're very welcome. Everyone here was a "newb" at one time or another with regards to hats, and you've found the best place on the 'Net to learn about them. Hats, that is, not newbs.Got ya!! I have a Stetson OR and the brim curls up pretty good all the way around. I've been trying to make it flatter. So if probably like the RM better with the flatter brim. Thank you for the info for a Newb. Haha

+1I'm a little late to the party, but congratulations on picking out your Camp Draft, Cap_7957. I think you'll find that the Taupe Fawn is a very versatile color.
Nice hat well bashed. My Campdraft arrived today from the Hattery!!!! 8 days!!!
My Burnstain Bear hat!! Ha
It's pretty big sized, but most say it'll shrink up on here. Might try distilled water on the sweat and a hair dryer to help it along!
My first ever dry bash attempt. The hat is very soft!!! No problems at all.
The color is great!!!! I was scared it would be like a milk chocolate brown. Very nice!!!
I'm a happy Camper....Draft? Ha

Thanks y'all!!! I appreciate it!!!
I put some steam on it and formed it up a little better.
I'll put some foam in it and wear it for a few weeks like that and see what happens.
Do you put the foam that came with it under the sweat? Or use the sticky on the outside of the sweat?
I would think under....

Under. You don't have to use the sticky if you plan on removing it. Mine stayed in without sticking it. Nice bash and good-looking hat by the way.
