I had a bad experience with Hats by the 100 (another face of Australian Gear) a few years back and wouldn't recommend them. (They shipped me a black Bogart when I'd ordered a grey one, then wouldn't admit to their mistake and allow a return/exchange even after I sent photographic evidence it wasn't what I ordered.)

Conversely, I've only had great Akubra-buying experiences with Everything Australian, HatsDirect, and Aussie Bush Hats & Oilskins. Just sayin'.

On youtube Hats by the Hundred channel has product reviews , and special made to order color reviews , they've got two channels , now , but get on the one with more vids , I think that shows more . www.australiangear.com.au may , also .

I went to order one and remembered that I have a thin ribbon dark brown Gannon heading my way in a couple days ... the thought didn't curb my craving much but it did make me stop the ordering process

As Bob said , Intervention . Haha ! Akubra Hats are a Great Value , and tough . Seems the more you throw at them the better they get . I always have to fight my desire for a couple of Westerns , and Campdrafts , and others when I go look . But I don't have a Gannon coming . I have got my first Strat ordered , but it'll be a while before it comes . If I knew how the 2 1/2" brim looked on me I'd have a better idea how to proceed . Anthony Rocks them All so well , and he could sell tickets to come see his hat room ! Haha , it would be like the Corvette Museum to a Corvette collector , Great Hats in there ! I really would like to see a video tour . And the Drum kits ... I bet he has some nice ones . But in Hats , Moon and Alan and a few more , Yawy the would be KOOL ! Dinerman , and too many to mention .

You know the Squatter has a New Color , too I think its Fawn ? But they show it Pork-Pied , though they come Open Crown , they look Great in normal bashes . It's almost Winter Down Under , Akubra will be opening up the felt Hat offerings , more colors this season . ... I haven't heard lately , but Rabbits took over Aussieland , they're a pest and trying to get rid of them , I guess thats why Akubra can get the felting fur and make a Great Hat for less cost . And I'm thankful for it . If I listed all the Akubras I would like , man ! The list would be long . ... not a Fedora , but the Woomera in SanTone Fawn is one I'd like . Glad they added Loden to the Campdraft colors !

If Loden is also known as Mid brown, that is the RM Williams color.

Very nice dark chocolate brown with a hint of gray along the edges of the felt.

Hard to photo properly, but quite pleasant to see.

Above shows with filtered sunlight and no flash, but the color is still washed out a bit. The hatband and edge ribbon are a little closer to the color of the hat body. Darker to my eye than mid brown.

You know I have them in my Bookmarks , but when I looked , it's updated , because before they had Old Style "Boss of the Plains" Akubras showing available (not the Telescopic crowns of late , Cattleman Ceased) , but I bet it would be a good idea to check . The Best Most Up to Date Akubra Hat Website Retail is www.hatsdirect.com The Hattery , but some styles they don't offer , or show that others do . ... I always wonder why no Aussie Site sells The Bushman ? That's a Great Hat ! Seriously ! The first Akubra I bought , and I'll try to always have one , 3 1/4" Brim and I think 5 1/2" crown (a little low to me for some creases on my head , but others may not have any trouble) , but I really like it . I don't know why one can only get the Bushman here in the US. It is a great hat!

If I'm not mistaken loden is the brown fed IV color too. Man, now want one of those Campdrafts!

Can anyone confirm that Loden is the same color as the brown Fed IV? I was thinking about a Lawson in Loden and already own a brown Fed IV so j could know what to expect.

Well to me they look the same , check www.hatsdirect.com and look at a Dark Brown Fed IV , then check out the Rough Rider in Loden , and see what you think .

You could email Hats Direct , and ask , I think Trudy is who responds .

The Fed IV gives you an up close , it looks just like the RM Williams , to me the Rough Rider looks the same , but it doesn't give you the close up .

The captions on a couple of the photos show it as "mid-brown". I couldn't resist. Ordered one. Its certainly not my idea of "loden."

Well, I received an email that the CD will not be available in this color, so my order was cancelled. Crud. Back to square one.

I haven't , yet , but wedgetail said he orders from them and Australian Gear . I had looked at them and had them Bookmarked , then just removed the Bookmark , but after he said he liked ordering there , I added it again . He lives in NSW AU , been posting to Akubra Overload Thread .

Yeah , just looked , they (Nungar) still show Campdraft and RM Williams both Mid-Brown , (up to 12 week wait) on the Campdraft . That was who you ordered from wasn't it ? Wedgetail said if you contact Akubra directly sometimes they'll have a color and style in your size . I saw their contact info , at one site , may have been Nungar , I'd have to look .
