I have a feeling that US Authentic A-1 might end up wearing pretty well. The hide looks like a lot of the more expensive Japanese makers does when new but I'd bet good hard wear and a couple rain showers would give it a better patina. Also, keep an eye on the Good Wear sales page. There's a lot going on up there in Seattle at the moment so I wouldn't be entirely surprised to see one pop up there. It may take a little patience but could be worth the wait.
That's how I got my beautiful A-1. Of course I'm lucky enough to be almost exactly the same size as John so his test jackets usually fit me perfectly.

I called US Authentic . They said it's horsehide but since it was several years ago,
it could very well be goat .
I have jackets made of horse & goat.
My guess is "goarse." :D
Not sure if original A-1s came in goat .

Thanks for the compliment !

If it was steer and goat it would be Stoat. ;)

Looks a lot like some medium horse I've had, also goat. Goat's a great substitute for lambskin and other, more delicate hides, imo - still has a similar drape, but can take a bit more wear...

Tempting as that sounds, I think I'll pass. Mystery hide might be magic stuff but JC has his own magic that I am well and truly under the spell off.

Check page 18 of the 'Show me your favorite jacket' thread. One picture of my ugly mug is enough but the jacket doesn't suffer from the model. It actually looks a little better on me now as I've lost a little weight.

I have a Landing leathers/Airborne Leather A1, bought to evaluate the A1 concept before a larger investment. Though I have not done the photography for a review, here's a short form review:

Price Paid: $119 (Amazon on Sale)
Fit: Blousy in mid-section for my 34-inch waist. Trimmed down by my tailor. In XL, shoulders roomy, body adequate length for my 6'3" frame, arms just long enough for a 36-inch sleeve length.
Material: After close examination of a small interior area of the hide, stripped via acetone, I conclude from the follicle pattern that the hide is Capeskin or Lambskin, with a non-aniline calendared/corrected grain finish. This is consistent with an Airborne Leathers A2 I have.
Sew Pattern: 3 piece back, 4 piece arms, pockets slightly oversize, Correct number of buttons, accurate pen pocket. Correct collar loops.
Trimmings: Cotton lining in dark khaki with print US flag, acetate sleeve lining, acrylic beefy knits, buttons are cheap plastic and were replaced by me with period bakelite.

Haha, 2jakes. Now you can claim you own a GW A-1 and have the photographic evidence to back it up.
