Loncster, an important point in the purchase is that the jacket fits the size.

True! I might give them my barnstormer measurements so they don't mess up. It's even harder to make sure the fit would be perfect for some reasons, Leather thickness, And lining. Which is cumbersome to find out the perfect fit

That is my jacket haha.

Did you like it?
I have mixed feeling on the SB Montana.
It is cut different than the Aero Barnstormer. I wish I had known that as I thought they were the same jacket but they are not. Aero Barnstormer has narrower shoulder at the same P2P, and comes with drop 4 taper in stock spec. SB Montana is cut differently, it's wider shoulder at the same P2P but straight torso no taper. So I ended up having my local alteration shop tapering it. And the alteration job was not as clean as I had hoped. I still have the coat and I am trying to see if my other alteration guy can give it a cleaner stitching finishing. It will have to be a while because he is in Japan.
Love the Horween Lux leather, thick and soft from day one.
FWIW I don't think my mix feelings about the SB Montana was SB fault but me not having the best intel when I made the decision. If you are thinking of a SB Montana you can ask for custom tapering from the factory.

Nothing wrong with that coat or the fit (appearance wise). Just my 2 cents. I'm no expert on fit, hang, drape, etc. but no matter what, that's a great looking coat.

Thank you. I might have came off wrong. Was not complaining about SB but my own perception due to poor intel I picked up elsewhere (not from SB, Deb’s always took care of my inquiries well).

What really happened? Why you're not satisfied with the jacket? It looks great

Also the belt could fix the entire look

Any suggestions on what to do when ordering the montana SB jacket? Like adjusting things or adjusting length. Please tell me your thoughts!

I have a blanket-lined Barnstormer and that has proved perfect, twinned with a heavy jumper, for most weather up to the point where I switch to a shearling jacket.

IMO, the proportions of this jacket are rather odd. It feels like it's a version of a peacoat, rather than a Barnstormer, but then I'd expect the hem to cover the back pockets of your jeans (unless of course, you're wearing jeans hanging around your hips). The look is not helped by having the hip pockets so close to the handwarmers and the flaps are way bigger than is necessary.
If I'd been putting this jacket together, I would have added a couple of inches on to the body, taken an inch off the flaps, and shifted the pocket entrance down an inch or so. To me the issue is down to a pattern being either designed,, or an existing one manipulated, by someone lacking a basic eye for proportions or who couldn't bothered to go and find out how these things should go together.

Long post. I will start from the beginning of my Barnstormer journey. Saw the Barnstormer thread here, got one from Aero, size 36. Then I got the SB Montana, size 42, even same P2P as the Aero but the jacket was bigger, I didn't feel tight around the armpits, different patterns as I later discovered. I ordered it in the same length as the size 36 Aero though because I like it either short or super long. It's either under 30" or over 36" for my own preference. I find that 32" to 34" is my unflattering zone. Then I got my SB tapered because I am not much of a belt person. My local machinist did a decent job on the outside but not so clean on the inside lining. I moved the size 36 Aero on because it was tight in the pits and kept the SB Montana in 42. Then I got another Aero Blizzard, shawl collar, size 40. It is wider in the P2P than the SB size 42 but actually felt like the same size. I moved the Blizzard because I realized I am not a shawl collar person. I don't think you can go wrong with either brand. But SB size 42 fits the same as the Aero size 40 despite the difference in P2P measurements.

Aero Size 36 on the left and SB Size 42 on the right. The camera height was at the stomach then. All my current fit pics the camera is at the shoulder height. Big difference just raising the camera up.

I don't remember writing about my SB Montana, which I mostly should have, it's great jacket. But luckily I still have it and if you need any photos just let me know.

I wrote about the Aero size 36 Barnstormer here, pics are still good if you click on the link. Felt like it's been so long but only a couple of years.

Damn! That is wonderful, Great review, Great jackets.

When I picked the barnstormer in Natural CXL they said the P2P should be 23.5 (Size 38) I was told this is ideal because of the nature of the CXL you should pick something larger. I'm still confused and i do think it's a little big on me, I have 40 chest and 41 Expanded. So this whole thing is kind of confusing, Because i'm afraid this would be too big. I'm also leaning towards the montana. Looks awesome and clean, But i'm more into the Barnstormer, So your tips and ideas is very helpful. Thank you!

I would also be interested to see more pictures of your montana jacket!
