In my opinion Freaks is still an effective movie to this day, and one of director Tod Browning's best. One of the stars of "Freaks." The scene of him bouncing along in the rain on the way to carve up the strongman is one of the most chilling scenes in 1930s cinema.
I'd have to agree with you, Lizzie. It's not about his deformity - no. The frightening moment comes from the eerie scenery, those sounds.. ughh, now I remembered the scene again, and it gave me shivers..One of the stars of "Freaks." Agreed.I saw it once and that's enough. I do NOT want to see it again. (As with Stray Cat, I don't even want to think about it.)
Student on the far right, second row from the bottom: "I remember that! And I was pretty darn good at it, if I do say so myself."This photo's been making the rounds of the snarky-blogger/smirking-irony/OMG-wasn't-the-past-stupid crowd for a couple of years now, until a relative sent it my way. The caption attached to it is "ALL FEMALE SEX EDUCATION CLASS 1929."
Obviously the so-so-smart twentysomethings who're snickering superiously about this one have never heard of Clara Bow.
