Tomorrow.

Anyone who's not in the New York area, feel free to message me about stuff you're looking for and your budget and I will keep an eye out for you to proxy it like I did a few years ago. Also let me know what you prioritise (i.e. you can sometimes get a jacket for relative pennies if it has a scuff or something but the same jacket might be available in perfect condition for $600. It's very unpredictable!)

Was it you that almost got into a fight with one of those resellers?

Ok I just got home from my first Schott factory sale, and it was quite an experience!

I arrived on the early side and was about the 15th person in line - the first person on the line said they got there at about 3:30 am. Got a great parking spot in the main lot and met some nice guys on the line who were also hoping to snare some good jackets, boots, sweaters, wool hats, etc. I'd have to say people in NJ need to be more entrepreneurial as a fortune could have been made by a food truck vendor or someone simply selling coffees and donuts...

Anyway, I was seeking a trucker 2401W for my wife, a 2404W for my daughter, and to try on the SP540 to see if it worked for me.

When the Schott team opened the gate at around 9:45 am, I stepped in and grabbed the two women's jackets that were in the tent to my left, then went deeper to get an overview of the inventory in it, as that was where the heavily reduced sale items/one-offs/defectives were offered. There were mountains of sweaters, jackets, etc., but I wasn't really there for that stuff and wasn't of mind to sift through dozens of racks. I went into the factory building itself for my SP540 as I was told it would not be on any of the deeply discounted sales racks. I requested a large and an XL, and the XL fit me perfectly.

I checked out the sweaters and shirts diagonally across from the customer service table, and they were arguably the best bargain in the entire sale. $90 shirts for $20, and $225 100% merino sweaters for $40. The boots were $100 when normally $400, and 100% wool hats were $10.

After paying for the jackets and shirt I picked out, I went back in to do a second walk through - and almost all of the jackets for women I had looked through were gone, just crazy. It was quite crowded and a bit chaotic, but civilized and people were quite polite. A few times someone tried to grab some of my items I had set aside to purchase, and had to say "those are mine, thank you" which people accepted and moved on.

The Schott family members working there were tremendous, as were the customer support team walking the floor. All of the people who were working that day, from the photographers up through the senior staff, were fantastic and incredibly patient and helpful during a time of shopping madness.

Now that I have a better handle on timing and item placement, I am excited to go back next year. Wish they had them more often.

I was there today too! Got there around 10:30 and wasnt too crowded but I guess a lot of the good stuff were taken already. Mostly I wanted to visit for the 1st time and check out the 613 and 618 but those racks were virtually empty by that time. There were some mixed, seconds racks where the jackets were like 200-400ish.

Overall I am glad I visited but prob wont go again. If you really wanted something you gotta be there early!

Also I was the one in the red hoodie, the only one haha. Here's some pics. I did not like any of how those jackets fit me. I saw that belt in the NYC store and quite liked it but didnt like it being over $100 lol. This was $40 but totally too short.

also there was a single police officer, the whole place was ran pretty well and everyone was quite polite.

The time to get there is really early, like 7am. When you are towards the front of the line, you will have first pick as the people stream in.

I realized right away that unless you go with a team of people, you cannot definitively find two or more desired types of items on the racks or on shelves. Stuff is being pulled too quickly, so basically - you have to decide what is the top item you want: super-discounted imperfect jacket, shirt, sweater, boots, textile jacket, etc. and hope to grab one of those quickly enough before running to the next section/area where the next item you want would be. Just too many people grabbing whatever they can even if they are not sure if they will buy it, and the super-discounted items section in the tent where the most desired perfecto moto jackets are, is the most chaotic and competitive.

The leather jackets that are Grade A are a different story because you can just walk up to customer service and ask for the style number, size and color if applicable, and they will grab it from inventory.

But the items strewn around the big outdoor tent and the boots, hats, belts, etc items on shelves are too far apart and too heavily desired to be able to get all of the specific items you might have wanted in the size you seek. You just have to choose what is the item you want most, and hope there might be a few of the other items left once you have acquired your top item, especially if it was something you needed to try on for a few minutes to confirm if it fits.

That said, it is a lot of fun and a chance to meet the Schott family members and factory staff making the jackets. They are great people and are doing the lord's work.
