The ones early on are fine and give a fair idea of shape and colour.

And previously, you wrote about the Kentish Vintage Walkers and their varying degree of vintageness... I was wondering whether they might still be worth looking up?

Yes, they're less vintage, with a couple of exceptions, and more into natural fibres, taking photographs, sketching and painting. They're very nice people.

It looks very straight up and down. Is it waisted at all, or half-belted at the back?

It is straight. Just two belt loops, one each side. The belt will gather it in. The sleeve arrangement means that it's not at all restrictive. It's a very fine, relatively lightweight, coat.

My own quest is ongoing. Yesterday in a local antique shop I thought I spied a rather manky but almost certainly Ventile jacket in a dog cage. I'd hunkered down to get a better look when from beneath the suspected Ventile emerged an extremely cross Staffordshire bull terrier.

The quest continues...

Best of luck with that. I'll certainly relieve you of the next upsize garment you'll (inevitably) find.

It's not a perfect fit, but it's a field coat designed for the greatest degree of movement and allowing bulky layers to be worn underneath.

As to water resistance, it got soaked in heavy mist and drizzle this morning, but it dries fairly fast.

If I were an entrepreneur, I'd make the effort to find a clothing designer/maker, have it copied with some modifications to cut, made up in Ventile, and sell it through the usual over-priced new (anti)workwear outlets. I wish I had the money gene.

I really like stylish field jackets now. They're my new thing. But I've only got a couple to rotate:

Grenfell jacket

HI Tailorman here,your jacket is model 103/ LV38/LV38P
i started working at Cordings in 1977 and we sold them then
the came in 3 shades R27 (rifle) LG57 (loden green) and your LV38
(lovat) the outer shell was made from proper Grenfell cloth ,the LV38P
was for the inside it was made of poplin cotton not Grenfell ,hence the P
They did come with a belt, that was attached with a loop at the back
so you didnt loose it,they also came with a plastic lined poachers pocket
on the left side ,as they was all designed for right handed shooters,
hence only one breast pocket on the left, They were about £80,same
price range as the Grenfell raincoats, i earned £25.00 a week then
bear in mind a weekley rail ticket to London then was a fiver,
so they were expensive then .We was Grenfell biggest account in the UK
and Barbours biggest account in the world .A Barbour jacket was about £ 35
Now the Grenfell cloth held many accolades then ,highest cotton tent up Everest
North pole expidition this ,South pole expidition that,
it was fantastic cloth,and owned several Grenfell pieces in my time there (i left in 1986)
and wish i could another 103/LV38
