1930s Belted Back Jacket PATTERN

Hello there,

A friend and I are planning to see a belted pleated action back suit jacket. The both of us think that a pattern from the 1930s would best suit our needs for its construction. Does anyone on here have access to a pattern or know of one that would be suitable for a belted pleated action back? If so, please let me know. If size is of a necessity, I am a 36-38 jacket size.

Thank you for looking.

half belt jacket - Copy.jpg

Is this the style that you are looking for? The photo is not me, I used it when, like you I was searching for the half belt, pleated look. In the end I asked a tailor, he must have had either the pattern or had come across it previously, he knew it well enough to make it for me. I now have a blazer, made to measure, in that style. Former Lounger SimonC who trades as Cathcart https://www.cathcartlondon.com/ would be worth contacting.

Yes, this is pretty much what I'm looking for. Ideally with the action back as well built into the pattern.

The suit in the photo looks quite nice although my preference is for coats–especially belted back sporting coats like this or a Norfolk–to have a slightly more flared skirt.

But there is a nice hourglass shape here; I believe it's the ventless construction that's restraining it, so to say. I assume SJC chose this because it was a 1930s cinema fashion to go ventless (something I adhered to myself for the longest time) but in practice I believe it defeats the purpose of a bi-swing jacket to then limit range of movement in the lower section. Vents would be an improvement (and they are not a modern touch; they were common in the 20s, just out of fashion in the 30s).

This is the blazer that SJC's blazer inspired. You can see it has vents, but the only photo that I have of the rear half belt was taken after unwrapping the blazer when it was delivered.

It looks a tad crumpled, I will try and get a better image of it when I can ask my lady, who, at present is laid up following surgery, so you will have to be patient.
By the way, the shirt and trousers are straight off my wife's sewing machine, and the baggy pants get many a comment.
Actually, there's a close up photo in this thread that I had forgotten about. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/threads/blazers.92616/page-5

You might be interested in this style by Chester Cordite. So many times that I have
looked at it, but much as I like it, I cannot justify yet another suit.
