I've contacted Tilley to see what they will say, as my problem isn't shrinkage, but that is hasn't shrunk enough! This "Long Oval" thing has really played havoc with me for too long, but now that I know about it, at least I can communicate the issue to vendors and makers, rather than just...
Well, I suppose I couldn't speak to how fashionable they are, but the Tilleys are durable. The T3 was the second hat I ever bought, and it functioned exactly the way I needed it to. (Sun-exposure is my major issue. I don't tan- I burn.)
I've enjoyed my T3, excepting the sizing issue (my...
Are you sure?
I thought the guarantee was only good for two years? At least, that's what I thought I read on the website. If I'm wrong, could to point me to the age where it says otherwise? 'Cause this is something I'd really like to be able to do...
Yeah, I'm new in town, and thought I'd introduce myself and say hello. The story so far? Started to wear a fedora (probably a wool felt) back in my college days, but the discomfort from the poor fit finally caused me to stop. A few years ago, tried again with a Tilley T3, tried to work around...
I've got to agree with Matt on this one, however: If worse comes to worse, you may want to consider covering it up with "silk" surgeon's tape. I have no idea what this will do to your sweatband in the long run, mind you, but it's a possibility. That tape is meant to be used on skin for short...
Thanks again- It sounds like we have the same size/shape situation, so I'm glad to see that it can work. I'm just going to have to bite the bullet!
PS: Newbie question- Hat Jack? What's that? I can guess from the words, but I'm curious for more details.
Thank you- Every bit of information helps! But when you measured yourself, was it 61cm on the tape measure? I may be obsessing, but this (sizing with a long oval head) is what burned me before and turned me off from hat wearing for years!
The saving grace is that it seems that hatsdirect's...
UPDATE:
SO I've been corresponding with a lovely lady at hatsdirect.com, who was willing to confirm my sizing. She informs me that there is a "memory wire" in the leather band which will mold to the shape of my head over time. Has anyone heard of this? And for those of you with Long Oval heads...
I'm no expert ...
but I'd have to agree with everyone here so far. Less tapering in the crown, no stingy brim, and give yourself a chance to see how good that'll look on you!
