Lincoln Bennett hats
Hello!
An old thread, but worth commenting I think...
I collect British hats from the 1920s - 1950s. Your Bowler is 1930s, Your snap brim (the proper English name for a "Fedora" or "Trilby" is mid to late 1930s. Indeed, the frayed ribbon is a mark of quality and is...
Hello, I will certainly take some photos of the fabric for you. RE: buckled below the knee, these are 'plus-twos, not 'plus-fours' - my understanding was that these are supposed to buckle at the ankle - please correct me if I'm wrong? FYI: they are a full trouser leg length (and high waisted of...
That is such an amazing suit! I have a "plus-twos" suit from the 1930s, no tailors label but HEAVY harris! It also has a pair of regular trousers too. Jacket is not a belt-back unfortunately...
Here are a few of mine; I've been waiting for a nice day to photograph them. This group are from my main snap brim and homburg collection:
Back Row:
Blue Lock & Co 252 shape (1930s)
Blue G. A. Dunn & Co (1930s)
Black Battersby Diplomat (1950s)
Black ‘Finest Quality’ English Velour...
CC41 WWII suits
Hello,
Some great British suits on here!
This is a CC41 Hepworths suit that I wear quite often for gigs and work. Style on rations! Fantastic, hard wearing fabric, even the moths won't eat it!
I have five of these 1940s suits in total. I love the blue pinstripe...
Glad you like our little band! Thank you for your kind comment. I've usually played in big bands, this is a new project!
In case any other loungers like 1940s swing trio stuff (I'm sure there must be!), you can see a clip of us here:

Hello everyone,
Been a while since I visited the lounge; I don't know why I've been away so long! Thought I would share my new musical project with you while resurrecting an old post.

Dating hats
Two bits of advice:
1) Hats that come boxed often have postage marks dating when they were shipped from the shop to customer; providing the make/model match on the box and hat, one can 'assume' this to be reliable.
2)Research on census, companies house (UK), local councils...
Some black hats from the 30's and 40's
I love black hats but I seldom wear one! I think they can appear overly formal and have connotations of emo/grungy fashions nowadays (unfortunately).
Here are some real oldies for you...
Battersby c.1930's
Lincoln Bennett c.1940's
G.A...
Save your money!
Hello,
Unpatriotic I know, but there are no good value, quality hat makers left in London. If you want an over-priced, poorly finished bland hat made from an eastern European hood, then try Lock & Co. St. James Street. Worth a trip to have a look purely because they are the...
Wow! I wonder where he got that one? I was going to bid on a very similar hat in the UK that was on ebay.co.uk, maybe 6 months ago? I have restricted my collecting habit pretty much to hats I will actually wear! That "10 Gallon" style homburg is incredible!!!
An unusual Dunn
"The Stadium" Model circa late 1930's. constructed from a normal felt hat body but with concentric stitching and without a sweat band reed; an early crushable felt hat, ideal for the sports spectator hence "The Stadium". keeps its shape even after being stuffed in a pocket! I'm...
