Charity Shop tip off
One of my musician friends 'tipped me off' about this hat for a fiver (£5) in a local charity shop; I nipped out to snatch it! It is a size 7 1/4 too, which is a good size, a little large for me. I might sell if anyone want its? how odd it should show up mid-way through a...
The hat is your Avatar is super! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap
Great proportions and looks very well on you; I hope you wear it out and about... Moth nibbles = Character!
I would love to see the inside liner on your hat. I don't want to know the size as it may make me jealous! :D
Dating your hat!
Hello!
Unfortunately, it would seem that in the UK, no one really cares about the historical preservation of information about hatters and tailors; even big names like Montague Burton and George Arthur Dunn are relatively obscure in archives and exhibitions. The British Hat...
G. A. Dunn (George Aurthur Dunn) & Co.
I am a BIG Dunn & Co collector, in my opinion, THE quinessential 1930's Britsh hat. Style, across all their quality ranges at this time was apparent. Here are some pictures of some G. A. Dunn's in my collection... enjoy! Any questions, ask me. Photos of...
Hi John,
I don't think it would've had a liner originally, feels too inexpensive. I've seen similar Stetsons with a fabric sticker in the crown; in England, they did this a lot on entry level hats. Like this Attaboy;
Royal Stetson Open Road, Shuddle Bros. Houston
Bought locally from a fancy dress shop that was having a clear out, paid £10 which seems a good price. Basic model, 40's or 50's? Nice contrast between felt and ribbon that didn't really come out in the photo; hat body is kind of pink-brown...
Dunn/Austrian Velour
Thanks for the info Mayserwegener!
Size is UK 7 1/8, (US 7 1/4) approx 58.5cm diameter.
Liner wise, the leather sweat is definitely an English addition; this is what most 1930's Dunn & Co's have, and I have quite a few! Liner fabric is synthetic, like rayon. it is...
Dunn & Co Austrian Velour
G.A Dunn & Co, British hat maker: hat body is "Austrian Velour” made in Czecho-Slovakia the spelling of which dates it to 1938-39. Lining has typical Piccadilly London address of Dunn & Co so I expect the body was imported into the UK and finished in a typically...
Berg hat
Thanks Brad!
You're spot on with the Hodshon-Berg thing; I've inspected the sweat and that detail is present along with Made In New York.
I bought this hat in the UK, so I wonder when it travelled over the pond? It is one of the nicest hats I have, so I shall be sure to look...
Some recent additions...
Hello everyone,
Not been around on the lounge for a long while… Thought I’d share some recent acquisitions with you.
This G.A. Dunn & Co British Hat has a velour body made in Czecho-Slovakia; the spelling Czechoslovakia like this means it can be dated between the...
A gallery of English hats of the 1930's
I am always meaning to create a proper thread to post my research into British hat manufacturers; as yet I have not had time to consolidate my research, so here is a 'gallery' of some of the 1930's hats from my collection.
As a tip- James Lock & Co. St...
Beautiful Wolseley Pattern Helmet
I'm afraid I don't know much about this hat- I was given it by a neighbour who told me it belonged to her father. I must find out his name, if he was a military man and where/when he served. A beautiful hat with exceptionally well intact original liner. I...
Early Fedora?
A curious one indeed…
I recently bought a hat (below) confused me greatly with regards to its date of manufacture. Indisputably a nice hat, I assumed initially that it was a provincial, own-branded shop hat from the 30’s or 40’s. The felt, leather band (which is the best...
My Disney
Hello ladies and gents,
Here is my beloved Disney fedora; it's one of only three American hats I own, but what a hat this one is! I love it! However, I know nothing about how old it might be or why the brand logo inside seems different from all the others here. If anyone can help...
Alternative methods
I'm going to quote myself from a different thread here; this is my method, all I can say is that I have successfully made moth craters invisible with this method- over to your discretion...
Tainted love...
I have at last, found the hat I have been looking for since the beginning- A Dunn & Co French gray snap brim of classic pre-war proportions. What a joy to find, in its box, original owner (Scovell Esq.) and his address inscribed on the lid. However…
Despite...
Removing moth 'craters'- not for the faint hearted!
Ok, I do not want to be held responsible for any over jealous approach to the technique I am going to share with you now- proceed with caution!
This will not fix a moth hole that is completely of nearly through the felt completely...
