I draped this dress based on the Peggy Wood dress spotted here: http://www.etsy.com/listing/93234828/r-e-s-e-r-v-e-d-vintage-1950s-rare-peggy
I draped the bodice on my form with the help of my excellent draping teacher and used my tnt circle skirt pattern.
You could adapt the burda pattern that Gertie uses for her bombshell course. If you do, be aware that the neckline is VERY low. I draped a pattern on my dress form for one. If you have one I could give you some pointers
I'm making this too. Is it gaping between the cups? If so, I think there was a discussion where Gretchen said to raise the upper cup which should help the gaping. Did you try putting the twill tape along the upper seam allowance?
You're right Sheeplady. My draping told me that when you have a lower armhole, more fabric is taken out of the bodice. She said it with more eloquently but that's why a higher and tighter armhole is actually better though it would seem the opposite.
Hi Scarlett,
I know the owner personally and can say that she tries to have the best customer service possible. I know Angela would want to know about your order issues. I would suggest contacting her via Facebook, of all places. I've seen people inquire about orders and she's gotten back to...
I have that pattern from Scissor Happy but I haven't actually made it yet. I also have the original but they are two different sizes. They have different instructions- the SH are not a photocopy of the orginal Butterick.
HepKitty,
I find it's easier to cut lining with a rotary cutter than with scissors. It doesn't slip around as much. It's a pain but you could hand baste before you sew. Sometimes I find it easier to use a walking foot to sew the slippery lining.
Hi Zombiegirl,
How much are you looking to grade overall? I personally would add to each panel but others may have differing opinions.
If it's just a few inches it should be fine. I once did a large grade and added almost 2 inches to each panel. I ended up leaving all of the extra in the...
That looks great Marie Anne! I thought you couldn't sell PMB pre-loaded patterns but could sell ones you draft yourself. But I could be wrong about that as I'm far from being that accomplished. I can't wait to see more pictures!
Nicole Ann, if you come to Brooklyn you can trace it. I'd offer to do it but I'm so slow. Poor Jennifer Rose has been waiting months and months for me to get off my lazy behind.
New 50s swimsuit pattern but what fabric to use?
I just bought this pattern and am wondering whether I should true to the period cotton or to stick with modern lycra. I'm worried that the cotton will fade quickly and chafe. On the other hand, I'm worried that the lycra will be too droopy...

While I've never seen one of her corsets, Sharon Butler is great. She's going to be giving me private draping lessons soon. Edited to add that all of these dressmakers are in NYC.
I think I did read about a custom printing company that prints on other fabrics but I can't remember the name :( I have used spoonflower and am happy with them. When I ordered from them they only had regular cotton. Now they have expanded to cotton lawn, twill and sateen. The only issue I...
