They're all Stetsons!!!
Aren't all hats Stetsons? All bicycle parts are Campagnolo and all guitars are Gibson or Fender!!
Sometimes the best deals are the worst or incorrect listings.

SoCal Borderlands?
Large area! Is this Imperial County or San Diego County? Or another area? I have some hat work done in El Cajon, Ca. at Boot Barn.

XX FUR BLEND
I have noticed that Western hats are the only ones I've seen in this case. But as one who sometimes has these rebashed as fedoras I have been watching out for wool blends. I have a Bee hat that has "XX FUR BLEND" on the sweatband and a rectangular size tag stating 10% Fur & 90%...
XX Wool
Fair warning for Newbies to hats. Myself included, that's why I use this forum for information (and there is a lot of knowledge here). I've seen a few Stetsons listed that are XX Wool. If I remember right the name "Stallion" comes to mind. I've noticed them in antique stores as...
Proud of Merchandise
I've also noticed a couple thrift stores I frequent are quite proud of some of their stuff. I still go there since I know what I'll pay for some stuff and keep looking until I find what I want. Always looking for hats, but they are rare finds. Fur felt under $10 gets my...
Hats are number one!
Right now hats take most of my time and money (lots of time, little money). Usually auction hats when they are cheap or from thrift/resale stores. The good ones (Whippets, Stratoliner, etc.) are out of my range being a 7 1/2 LO, so you don't have to worry about me bidding...
Non-badge
One reason I picked the pin I have is that it shouldn't be mistaken for a badge. The fedora and mask for the eyes should be enough to let one know it's not official "department issue" item. I'll just need to design some type of screw back.

A while back I picked up a Law Enforcement style Stratton hat.
I've been looking for something to fill the hole in the front where the badge is mounted. I tried getting a military hat with a ornament on the front, but had no luck. I did find this pin, but I'm not sure of how to mount it...
He's there!
I placed a call to Jimmy this morning and spoke with him. He's planning on shipping a hat to me this week. Hopefully things will go well.

My Hat Rack
As I've mentioned before, the "boss" cut my hat purchases off (even though many are for her) because of $$$ and storage issues. Well I've started to address the storage issues.
The only thing I had to buy were the 1 1/2" doll heads, since I had the oak boards and dowels in...
Hat Work in San Diego
If you're still in the El Cajon area, you might check in at Boot Barn in El Cajon. I have had several hats converted and repaired by the lady there. Sometimes I've had her re-do the crown or brim a bit while I wait. I believe that she is the only person in the area...
Saw Gun Club Hat!
I recently saw an older Gun Club in a store (resale shop) for about $35. I don't remember if there was a pin on it. It was a smaller hat and had a fuzzy finish. I think it said Imperial finish. Is that a desirable finish? Does that mean more Beaver or is it just fuzzy...
Outlet Markings?
I haven't seen an outlet store hat yet, but is the sticker the only indentifying mark? If so, just remove the sticker and who knows? I would think the outlet might punch the sweatband or some other permanent identifier.
Knowing I'll never get to Texas, I'm hoping my...
Steam vs. Heat
I was told that steam relaxes the stiffner in the felt and heat alone sets the stiffner. I don't know how accurate this is, but I thought I would share this info.

Floppy Hat!
What timing for this thread. Yesterday I picked up a Borsalino hat for my wife and it's quite floppy. I spent time during an open mic (while in the audience) playing with the bash and while it was easy to work, it didn't take much to loose the bash. So this is just what I was...
Larry Mahan's Collection
I have a tall crown Larry Mahan's "Collection" (western) hat in straw. It has a 6 1/2 crown and 3 7/8 brim. I don't know where I acquired this one and don't really wear it because it's so tall on me. I would start running into everything. It has a crown liner "pad"...
Felt for Me!
Felt hats are my preference. But here in San Diego the weather is not "felt weather" very often. Evening time is about the only time I can wear felts this month. Even today and tomorrow the temps are going to be around 90 degrees, so I'm still wearing straw! Maybe by next month...
My Size - NOT!
Carter, I usually figure that any hat I see is too small. Being a 7 1/2 LO, I don't expect to find anything that fits me. I'm sure you know what I mean since you are in the larger size category. The wife is a 7 1/8 LO so I give her the hats that range from 7 to 7 1/4. She...
Two of my favorite thrift stores are Goodwill and Salvation Army (especially the Boutique). I find the best quality stuff at Goodwill as a general rule. Both also have a "senior discount" and Goodwill is open on Sundays.
This was my "find" last Sunday at Goodwill. It was hanging on a hat...
