I haven't seen Miller's Crossing yet, but I checked out a copy from the library and plan on watching it this weekend. I'll be looking hard!
My favorite movie with hats is "Harlem Nights", even though I've read many poor reviews regarding Eddie Murphy and this movie. But that was after I saw...
No expert here! (me only, not the forum)
I feel you need 3 colors minimum. Black, Brown, Grey! Then get the other shades in between.
I feel lucky that I haven't received rude comments from people I encounter. About all I get is "nice hat". If it's a sarcastic tone, I probably missed it...
eBay is a crapshoot for me. The good deals are balanced with the bad ones that don't fit (wrong size given, bad measurements, inconsistent sizing), bad descriptions as to condition, etc. Nice that there are conversion threads on the forum. I may try to convert one in the near future. Until...
Kilroy, and all the others:
Nice to see people into Balloon Tire Bikes here. My brother and I each have one. His has been "restored" (before he bought it) kinda, and mine is a clunker. His restoration is not show quality by any means, but it did have a fair frame repaint.
Not to easy...
I'm finding that some brands seem almost a size off. It could have something to do with me needing a long oval size.
Are Long Ovals a thing of the past as far as "off the rack" hats? Are custom or vintage the only way to get Long Ovals?

My favorite hat (fits well, nice felt) from ebay has divots and one hole, but I'm wearing it as a daily casual hat. Most people I'm around don't even notice the problems. At least I don't have to worry about it!!!

San Diego isn't into "real" hats very much. My first real hat was a Resistol Western hat (my Bluegrass days) back in the early 80's from Western Hat Works. The store is now "Hatworks", dropping the Western, since they have very few, and there are stores in El Cajon that cater the Western Wear...
Nice hat!! I could use one of these.
Good thing it's the WRONG size for me!! :eusa_doh: Being unemployed at this time, I don't have to try and find funds for this.

Miller does appear to have quite a selection. I notice many Stetsons and "made by Stetson" for Miller. Are the "made by Stetson" hats similiar in quality to regular Stetsons, and just different designs and specs, or are the of a second quality?
I've never seen the Guerra line before. How...
What are the other auction sites that people are using? I look at one other auction site (store type) for purchases and have found a few hats there.

This is the first I've heard about the feedback changes. The only time I've left negative feedback was for Non-paying bidders, after I've received credit for Final Value Fees.
Just recently I purchased a hat "in good condition" that had divots and one hole. The photo was of the good side...
It's always Hawaiian Shirt weather as far as I'm concerned. Sometimes an undershirt is needed, but I always wear Hawaiian shirts except when a band uniform shirt is required, or a Long Sleeve and Coat are needed.
Kaleponi Craig - ALOHA - Nice to see a Ukelele player here. I'm a...
Being a newbie here, I have a lot of catching up to do. But I'm slowly learning about what I have.
Fedora wise I have 15+ felts and 2 straw at this time. I just received a Biltmore yesterday and have a Royal Deluxe Eagle pending. Not all are pristine and some are more for kick around...
Jeff,
Since you might not make it to Hillcrest, you might as well check out the VHS in Seaport Village. I don't know if there are any vintage shops downtown (I usually don't go there) and I know there are a lot of clubs in the area if that interests you. San Diego appears to be very limited...
The Village Hat Shop in the Hillcrest area (uptown) has the larger selection of hats. The one in Seaport Village is smaller and more convenient for the tourist traffic. I was downtown this morning and stopped by "Hatworks" (near Horton Plaza) and their selection was much larger than VHS from...
