As my first ever post to this thread, today I'm wearing a vintage Borsalino I just got off ebay. Seems to be in near perfect shape and fits pretty well too. It was represented as being pure beaver felt. I have no idea whether that's true, but it certainly is the softest and "furriest" felt...
There's a guy in Seattle who makes a couple different styles, including the eight-panel. He'll also custom make them with fabric you send in.

I'm selling a beautiful brown Borsalino hat that I bought off ebay where it was advertised as 6 7/8. Turns out it's actually larger than that. It's marked as 6 1/2, which in French sizing equates to American 7 1/2. I sold it to Michael aka ideaguy and he was hoping it would fit his 7 3/8...
You were right! I got the hat and it is certainly not a 6 7/8. 7 3/8 seems pretty close. It's hard to read the little tag to see whether it actually does say 6 1/2.
In any case, I have a beautiful vintage Borsalino that I want to sell. Size is around 7 3/8. If someone has tips on how to...
". . . has to be a difference . . . "? You mean, other than the fact that it costs five times more than some other equivalent hat? While it's possible there might be another difference, there's no reason to think there _has_ to be one.
I remember twenty plus years ago when I graduated from...
dean -- Yes, that's a third option I was wondering about. Seems a bit strange that someone would be that careless in doing the pictures, but possible. Then again, the pushup in the center bash looks pretty symmetrical with rest of hat. . .
In any case, I'm hoping I'll be able to just push...
I was wondering about the bash on this hat. Is it an example of some standard old-fashioned-style bash? Or is it more likely a unique bash that someone put in just to be a little different? I wonder whether bashes are the kind of thing that can look okay so long as you think they do, wear...
Well, I've got to get up to 15 somehow, so I'll just post it:
If you aren't aware of it already, go to the SaxOnTheWeb forums. It's a high traffic discussion forum where a lot of the guys are into vintage saxes. I've got three vintage altos. Bueschers, Conns, Martins, or Kings are probably...
Orgetorix -- Thanks, I just noticed that you'd replied to my post. I'm going to have to find a tape measure to check what my good fitting jackets are. I just moved and I'm sure I have one in one of my boxes somewhere. . . .
Thanks for the info guys. I was hoping it was not a recent vintage hat but had no idea myself. I'm new to the world of hats. I've always admired fedoras but just recently decided I'm going to take the plunge and try wearing them myself.
In an interesting aside, I took up saxophone playing...
I just won an ebay auction for what appears to be a beautiful brown Borsalino hat. Can anyone give me more info on it, e.g., probable vintage? Thanks.

I tried to pm but I've never posted before and the pm function seems disabled for me. Nevertheless I'd be interested in this jacket. I just bought a new Hart jacket yesterday at Nordstrom; it's a 40R and fit me pretty well. Is this one likely to fit me? I'm perfectly happy to take it to a...
