New Hat
I was wandering around in the Garland Resistol Outlet store the other day, not looking for anything in particular and not planning on buying anything, when I saw this. I could have passed it by, except for the color. With hats mostly in neutral/brown colors, I decided I could use...
Today's Hat
I'm wearing my newly bashed new Stetson "something" today. It turned out pretty decent I thought, although it took me a while. I'm amazed when I see really experienced people form a hat. I decided it didn't need my ugly mug peering out from under the brim.
Anyway, this hat...
Outlet Store Open Crown Fedora
The danger of living in the Dallas area is the ease of visiting the Outlet Store in Garland. Stopped by today not looking for anything, but just to check things out. I ended up with the hat here.
It was in the 7 1/8 rack, as was so marked. But it caught...
Just go hold of the top portion of SG Davis Hat Co letter head, which is pretty stunning in itself. The building is 800 Jackson St, Dallas (I was raised in Dallas and am familiar with the bldg), which Davis built in 1913.
The 6 ply ribbon was on a roll date stamped 1974. They've got a wide assortment of 6 ply from that era. Some of the other grosgrain they have dates back to the '50s and maybe earlier.
Standard Hat Works - New Hat is Finished
Back towards the end of July I posted some pics of the early stages of the making of my new 100X Standard Hat Works hat.

They finished...
Actually, what you see is in my pics was the better part of an afternoon. And when I left, the hat was still cooking and would stay in the machine over night. The last pic is actually out of sequence, as it hadn't actually gone into the cooker at that time. But I didn't want to spend the...
Yes, I've seen that. Neither Lenny nor the other maker in the video are with the company now. For all practical purposes, it's my understanding Lenny essentially abandoned the company and left Cameron to run the store. Don't know any details and don't want to, but Lenny was apparently...
Standard Hat Works in Waco.....alive and well.
The owner of Standard Hat Works in Waco has had some personal issues, and has sold the business to one of his employees, who has actually been "carrying" it for some time now. Cameron Morris is the new owner and is as passionate as anyone I've...
New Hat
Being new, I can see that "new hat", doesn't really mean "new" in the literal sense. But I received a text of my NEW hat this evening, and I decided it's show it anyway.
Some time back I found this hat in a south Austin resale shop. It's a Standard Hat Works from the 70s. I...
New Hat
This hat is "new" to me only because I finally got it away from my brother, who had it stuffed away in a closet.
It's my dad's best Dobbs, of the several hats he owned. He wore a hat all his working life, and never left the house in retirement without one. I don't know it's exact...
The shop isn't closed, but production isn't what one would want or used to be; I know more about the situation, but don't feel I should comment. They've got plenty of work to do, as the new 100X I'm having them make will take about 6-8 weeks. There's a guy name Cameron that's the main...
Hatco Outlet
I'm thinking your referring to the Resistol and Stetson outlet store over by the plant in Garland.
I've been there a couple of time. I almost bought a 30X Resistol "blank" (isn't that what you call an unshaped/trimmed hat?) at half price. But even at that, I decided to save...
