I spent 20 years in a uniform - US Navy, which was in itself a "vintage" style (at least when I had to dress-up) and was in a uniform for my civilian job until a couple of weeks ago. So now I get to wear my vintage suits. I wore one that was dated 1949, and a double-breasted pinstripe that was...
Thanks, Feraud. It really made me appreciate what gents went through in the "good old days" though. It was not the most comfortable suit for a hot, July day.
PS: I know that I "should" only button one of the buttons but after 20 years in the Navy old habits are hard to break. ("If the Navy didn't want you to button that button they wouldn't have put it there.")
I was a little nervous when I started wearing a fedora but really nervous when I started wearing a bowler. I have had lots of compliments but mostly people don't seem to pay any notice at all. Now it's "me". And I agree with everybody here - that hat fits you in more ways than one.
Finally wore my PB suit last 4th of July but just got the pic.
I don't know what year this suit is from. The hat is a new Stetson Panama. The photo was taken by Lloyd Wolf (http://www.lloydwolf.com) before the Takoma Park, MD, 4th of July Parade, 2011. I was asked several times if I was...
Hi folks. I'm hoping someone can identify and/or translate this label in a morning coat I just got from Ebay. I believe that it is Japanese. I have no idea how old the coat is. Your help is appreciated. Thanks
I just got a toddler's Palm Beach suit - DB jacket and short pants. As soon as I can get a hold of a child-size mannequin (or a child-size child) I will post a pic. I seem to have become quite interested in Palm Beach stuff although I haven't worn my suit yet. I'm planning to wear it for our...
I presume you've all seen this one on EBay? I'm curious what it'll go for. If it wasn't too small for me I'd sure be interested. A shame about the ink spots on the collar - I wonder if they went all the way through. Also, I've never seen or heard of the extra material covering the collars...
Re: Maroon sports coats. I can remember seeing older-men wearing these when I was growing-up in the south in the 'Sixties so I've always thought it was a distinguished look. Personally, I think a bow-tie would look good with it. But then, I'm weird that way.
I can't really comment on the technical, musical, wardrobe, etc. aspects, but all I can say is that this is one of the best movies I have ever seen. I am recommending it to all my friends.
I also have a pair which I really like. I've been wearing them now that we've had snow on the ground. They're comfortable and I've had positive responses at work with people asking me about them. Besides, when you're standing up they look just like regular shoes.
Great Thread
I'm glad I stumbled on this today.
I am getting better about wearing vintage things in "everyday life" as opposed to special events (like swing dances) where it's not unusual. I've been wearing my vintage 30's & 40's suits to work with lots of compliments. I've recently...
Well, I think this ad is prior to the enactment of child labor laws, so maybe you're right. But seriously, I think that's it. So, anything similar for adult men? (Sailors excluded.)
A "Dixie Cup" is the white, circular "sailor cap" that most people (I presume) think of when they think of a sailor's cap. Here's a link to a story that has a picture of some WW2 sailors in their dixie cups...
