The Tesi Montecristis all have unusually tall crowns.
Ask the folks at Bencraft for the exact dimensions.
The Fedora Lounge mavens here say that Tesi made Borsalino's panamas for them a few years ago.
Having compared my Tesi with a Borsalino, then, I would be inclined to agree that this was...
Far from my size, and most folks', nowadays.
Size 7 was probably the most common "larger" size of hat back in the 1950s and earlier , when people tended to be a bit smaller than they are now.
Judging from photographs and films from the time,
leather jackets were the preferred workday outerwear for blue collar workers, particularly those who worked in less heated environments.
Ease of movement, durability, resistance to staining, and ease of cleanup would have been the reasons, I...
Very dark green or very dark blue,
and all of the rest is precisely what I recall my maternal grandfather wearing when he came home from work late Friday afternoon when I was dropped off at my grandparents' for the weekend in the latter 1950s, although I don't quite absolutely recall whether his...
For staying cool, lightweight linen is absolutely unbeatable.
It has long been the classic hot weather fabric with good reason.
The reason being that it's an extraordinarily poor insulator.
Sure, it wrinkles like mad, but that's makes for much of the charm of its appearance.
It also unwrinkles...
A few of my favorites.
THE archetypal witch - Margaret Hamilton as the Wicked Witch of the West in "The Wizard of Oz" (1939)
The ultimate femme fatales - Jane Greer as Kathie in "Out of the Past", Rita Hayworth as Elsa Bannister in "The Lady from Shanghai" (1947), and Kathleen Turner as Matty...
Not at all unusual eBay seller packing and shipping practice, from my experience.
Yet another reason why I quit shopping there since about a dozen years ago.
Hats by the 100 is the same retailer as Australian Gear, who I have purchased items from on several occasions.
They always sent me tracking information and my purchases always arrived within a week.
I won't disagree, but the fact of the matter is that Doc Holliday is a wonderful character that any actor should love to play.
Dennis Quaid was quite impressive as Holliday in "Wyatt Earp", as were Victor Mature in "My Darling Clementine", Kirk Douglas in "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral", and Jason...
For whatever it's worth, my Alaskan nephew, who spends much time at work and leisure outdoors, absolutely swears by Carhartt denim jeans and canvas duck trousers, unlined and lined, and "wouldn't be caught dead in anything else".
My top thirty-three, in chronological order:
Destry Rides Again (1939)
Stagecoach (1939)
The Westerner (1940)
The Ox-Box Incident (1943)
My Darling Clementine (1946)
Fort Apache (1948)
Red River (1948)
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon (1949)
The Gunfighter (1950)...
An easy "mistake" to make. Most anyone would call them "eyelets", as that is, essentially what they are, except Akubra, which insists that they are chinstrap or stampede string "hooks", although, to tell the truth, they are extraordinarily difficult to attach an Akubra chinstrap or stampede...
The Akubra Bushman does not have ventilation eyelets.
Those are "hooks" (as Akubra specifically identifies them) for a chinstrap that are located at the bottom of the crown of the hat, in back of the sweatband, as Monavillecowboy just said, in the post just before yours.
