When I worked on Wall Street back in the '80's as a speechwriter and later compliance officer, I was attached to the legal dept. At the time there was a style called the "young fogey" look, which included three piece suits, wire-rimmed glasses, and, often, suspenders. I also wore high-button...
Hi, GGlep,
I'd say keep doing what you're doing, and it'll eventually come around. As far as it becoming floppy, I don't think you need to worry about that. My oldest Akubra, a BGCD in the Imperial felt, is very soft and comfortable now but is in no way "floppy." They just seem to get better as...
I'd give it at least three days, as the trip to Aero will eat up a morning or afternoon. Personally, when I travel I prefer to settle in a bit and get to learn the town a little, and Edinburgh's a very great town for walking. And stay away from Walker Slater, or your bank account will be hurting...
Nik, I've always admired your sense of color and style, but the pairing of the black cherry hat with that beautiful blue suit is particularly inspired.
Funny, but I've never thought of these jackets as being all that long. I suppose that's because, back in the early Seventies, I wore both suede and leather "gangster" coats, the kind that buttoned up the front and extended a good two or three inches longer than my LHB.
These things are extremely comfortable. I wore the black hemp today and was halfway through a lecture before I realized I still had it on. The sweatband feels a lot like the ones on my Akubra Heritage hats.
WooHoo! I just got off the phone with PB (not sure to whom I was speaking) and ordered my new Milan hemp Stratoliner. I got the Indy brown with the last of their dark green ribbon. He said they had enough as long as I didn't want a bound brim, which of course got me thinking, "Bound brim? Indy...
I've often wondered about this, but I've never had to deal with hats received used from Etsy or Ebay because my hat size doesn't seem to exist on those sites. But don't you guys worry about second-hand hats and possible little stowaways? Shirts, jackets, or trousers I buy from those sites or...
I have a LHB and drive a Mustang GT with bucket seats. No problem at all. You just sort of grab the bottom hem on both sides, pull it forward a bit, and forget about it.
My first was a mossgreen woolie fedora from Orvis that, like a lot of things from Orvis, didn't fit quite right. I gave it to a friend who had just been bled dry by divorce proceedings. He still wears it all the time.
Looking at that jacket, I can't help feeling that that's the one Gustin would have made if they'd been a bit more gutsy. I'd have bought it on the spot.
Until about 1979, CBGB's was pretty much a neighborhood bar, and the atmosphere was very loose and relaxed. The Ramones, when they weren't on stage, hung out at the bar or sat at the tables. Believe me, DeeDee was shorter than me and I'm 5'9". Joey was tall, Johnny about my size, and Tommy was...
