One of the best things about my Peters Bros. hemp is that, because of the nature of the hemp and the way it's woven, it allows for a bit of air flow (the hemp is very light as well). I'd be interested in seeing if the Balmoral is made the same way.
Yes, that was it. I like everything about it, especially the cut. The worst thing about getting outbid is that the measurements were exactly mine! How often does that happen?
The heading for the auction was "1940's Style Vanson Leather Jacket." Absolutely gorgeous jacket. I've been holding off on any further leather purchases (except the one I got from Terry) and trying to concentrate on things I can wear down here, but this jacket was just phenomenal.
Did anyone watch that 1940's Vanson jacket sale on ebay that ended yesterday? I'm still gnawing on my fist over it. I was sure I was on top of it, even upped the ante by $50.00 right at the end, but somebody must have upped it by $100.00. Last 15 seconds.
I just spoke to them and was told my hat will be going out by the end of the week, so it looks like a turnaround time of about a month. I'm really looking forward to it, to say the least.
Terry, have you noticed any difference in the quality of the leathers between, say, the 70's one and the later ones? Also, how are the fits on them? I'm about a 38, but sometimes the CR's tend to run a bit tight. Looking at the one in your video, I'm seriously checking out Ebay. BTW, that Winner...
I believe I ordered mine around the the same time (first week of April). Funny how it seems much longer. Anyway, here's hoping for this week. I'm already thinking about the next one.
N.B. A word of caution to anyone using spacers with these hats: because of the way they're woven, a single foam...
Carrasco was fantastic! I saw him at a club once where, in the middle of a guitar break, he jumpled off the stage and walked across the table-tops from one end of the room to the other. His songs were also the kind you walked around singing to yourself for days on end. I was in the middle of a...
One thing I've noticed is that, among my contractor friends, the only pants they'll wear are Wrangler jeans. They're all Southern boys and wouldn't be caught dead in anything else.
Good point. Does anyone know the literal translation of the word? I've always assumed it was related to "spritzy," or something effervescent and of the moment, but I could be dead wrong.
The hemp I got last summer has developed a weird curl in the back of the brim due to the spacers I was using. I tried steaming it a bit but may have been a little over-cautious. I think I'll try again when the new one arrives as it will be a Strat style as well and I can better judge the shape...
I think this photo gets to the heart of the problem: the ensemble is very, very nice, but it looks like some designer got paid to come up with it. What it lacks is the element of delightful surprise, which is the best thing in life. Also, I wonder if the whole difficulty of defining...
Patricia Highsmith's "Ripley" series; in fact, after reading "The Talented Mr. Ripley" I read just about everything she ever wrote. Highsmith's one writer who's been seriously under-rated.
How about Conrad and Stevenson? Both of their names say "adventure" to me. Something interesting I noted recently: Conrad dismissed RLS as a "boys' adventure writer," but if you read Stevenson's last story, The Beach at Falesa," it seems remarkably like the stories Conrad would soon write, even...
