I spoke with an old friend the other night to whom I asked what he and his girlfriend did with themselves on weekends. He said, "Oh, we just stay home and groom each other."
I'd be really surprised if you heard anything. There seems to be an endless number of pages of jackets, all in different colors and styles, and with remarkably little information about any of them. Aren't there rules on ebay about stealing other companies' photos? I seem to remember problems...
As stated above, it's a seriously under-rated style. It's also the one I remember, more than any other, working guys wearing back in the 1950's and '60's. Next one on my list. Congrats.
I never thought of myself as looking like a bum: rather, a young, dashing Woody Guthrie who would solve the world's problems and meet admiring girls. My problem was always that I wanted to combine that look with the British rockstar look, which took some doing.
$1600? I saw one in a used-clothing store in Dayton many years ago going for $2.00. I really liked it but didn't see any use for it, other than a kind of art-object.
Absolutely true. The biggest problem I've had in Great Britain and Ireland is coming out of a pub at closing time and looking the wrong way as I attempted to cross the street. I almost met my maker a couple of times.
The idea was that you wanted to show the world you were doing fine. My parents, who grew up during the Depression, always asked me, "Why do you want to look like an old bum?" I can still hear them.
I really like the way in which that Alessandria's felt has taken the crease. Is that a vintage Borsalino or the new one you picked up? The reason I ask is that, looking at it, I realize that I don't have a single hat with that kind of felt consistancy. Thanks.
I was just thinking that horizontally striped shirts have been a long and varied tradition of leather wearers for years. First one I can think of is Lee Marvin in "The Wild One," then (my personal favorites) Erik Von Zipper and the Rats in the Beach Party movies, and then it was Andy Warhol's...
Armorlux or St. James striped sailor shirts. Someone just mentioned them in a forum in the Hats section because there's a sale going on at a store in Belgium. They look particularly good with leather jackets. I wear them instead of t-shirts.
After eating at McDonald's for a month you'd be sporting a burial shroud. I really like that blue, though, and was wondering if Cane Rod Maker (now AlleyKatCo) could do one. Unfortunately, Gannon, like Hatco, doesn't make them in my size.
Btw, is Matt still with Hatco? I haven't heard from him...
