Surprised no one has mentioned it, but I strictly wear the cologne favored by Bogart and Cary Grant–– Acqua Di Parma.
Classic, but hard as hell to find.
Regards! Vintage
I saw the previews for it last night, when I went to see Flags of Our Fathers. The Good Shepherd DOES look good. With a cast like that (Matt Damon, William Hurt, De Niro, Alec Baldwin, Angelina Jolie) AND deNiro directing too how can you go wrong?
Should be out soon, prolly this year so it can...
Yeah, me too, though being such a tough manly fellow I have to say I really really enjoyed it. ;-) Makes me question the sanity of executives that cancel a show after only two seasons.
By the way what is up with HBO cancelling all the good shows??? Deadwood, Carnivale, Rome ( okay, maybe that...
Carnivale
Hadn't seen mention of this one much, but if you haven't seen the HBO series Carnivale the folks here should check it out. It follows the colorful cast of characters in a travelling circus troupe as they cross the country looking for the next dollar.
Very good, very 1930's Great...
I agree, the brown leather jacket and fedora IS a great look. I hope I didn't give the impression it wasn't or people should feel foolish while wearing them.
I DO have occaision to wear both at the same time, usually as the weather outside turns foul and it makes sense to wear both. Take...
Personally I live in my Bill's Khakis, and in colder weather I usually wear my G&B Indy Jacket as well. But I've found that wearing the jacket, khaki's, AND a fedora ( not to mention Aldens) just feels too much like a costume, so I usually only wear a fedora with a suit.
So, let's take a poll...
Nicholas Antongiavanni in his new book The Suit ( a must for anyone who frequents this website) said it best, " There has never been, then, a well-dressed man who has not worn suspenders; on the contrary, he has always worn them...belts are everywhere inoffensive but always uncomfortable"...
I recommend either Bill's Khaki's M2 or the M2P, both of which are 1" less full in the seat and rise. I'm a fairly big guy at 6'2, 200 lbs and even for my larger frame the M1's ( traditional cut) are too big. Go for the M2 series.
I've had all my Bill's tailored, so no problem there. Finding a good tailor is the tricky part. My advice is go to the local higher-end men's store. Even if you don't actually buy the pants there, most places will tailor for a small fee.
Good luck!
For fall, Bills Khaki's has come out with a heavier twill at 10.25 oz that they call the Bullard Field Pant. IMHO they are THE best khakis out there. Bill's usual khakis are 8.5 oz. I just love them. They wear like buttah! At $155 they ain't cheap though. I asked the vendor if I was crazy for...
Hey Ken,
There's an article in the Nov/Dec issue of Men's Vogue, page 122, describing the wardrobe of Charles Lindbergh. In it they picture a photograph of the leather jacket he originally wore, by Abercrombie & Finch of all things(pre-navel gazing period), and the modern take on it by Polo...
Ahhhh, well gee wiz Tomasso, you seem to be the guy with the answers! Thanks. I registered with Ask Andy and will let you know if I hear something from the guy you suggested.
Thanks again.
Thanks for your reply.
Gotta say I actually DID place an order from them as was not impressed with the quality when I received it. Shallow dye job on the leather (scratches exposed the raw leather), wrong color (oxblood rather than a deep chocolate brown), and treated with something that...
Sleeve Garters
So, anyone care to esplain to a newbie what the deal is with sleeve garters? Seen 'em in a bunch of period films, but can't quite figure out why they were used. Just to keep the sleeve from riding up when putting on a jacket?
Enquiring minds wanna know....
This is my first post, so forgive me if it's not in the proper forum.
I'm looking to have a reproduction made of Bruce Willis' double shoulder holster that he used in the 30's period movie Last Man Standing. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm a stickler for quality and attention...
