    Long hair on men?

Long hair on men? I'd say that long hair is a state of mind. On younger men ( late teens to early twenties) fine, but older men with long hair just look sad, like they're trying too hard. Nothing more pathetic than an ageing hipster.... So I would say no, not just no but heck no!

    dress vs casual fedora

My definition is more simple and straighforward: My "dress" fedora is my new(er) fedora, my casual "day in the garden, etc" hat is my older and thus more beat-up lid.

    Apple iPhone

+1 here. I'm a Mac Addict and had heard rumors about the phone for months. As an Apple user, getting the iPhone is the logical next step since it will connect all my desktop apps like Address Book, iTunes, etc into one mobile device. NOBODY knows design like Apple and Steve Jobs.

Ian McShane is great. The Devil always gets the best lines! Ben Kingsley ain't no slouch either...

    Why Not a Book Forum?

All applause will be accepted with deep humility.. Further reading suggestion: "Philip Marlowe's Guide to Life" a compendium of quotations edited by Martin Asher. If there are any mystery fans out there that know of hard-boiled detectives, like Robert B Parker's Spenser, I'd love to get some...

    Why Not a Book Forum?

Maybe I'm missing something, but why isn't there a forum on here for books? I'd love some suggestions for books to read beyond Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammet. My first suggestion would be "It's a Bitter Little World: The Smartest, Toughest, Nastiest, Quotes from Film Noir" by Charles...

    What's your alltime favorite movie?

Why would you hate to pick something shallow? Speaking for myself my favorite guilty pleasure is Last Man Standing with Bruce Willis. Not deep by any means, but I love the 1930's period gangster look and happen to be an afficionado of 1911 pistols and film noir. Great clothes, great dialogue...

    Back Bow Hat

I seem to remember a bit of hat lore that originally hatbands were made with a certain substance, and the little bow at the back of the hat used to be a skull and cross bones to indicate that it could be poisonous to the wearer. I'm ready to admit that i could be WAY off, but something is...

    Ridiculous prices

I'd say the worth of any item, hat or other commodity, is directly related to what someone will pay for it. If it's not worth the money, no one will buy it. You mentioned that in your post, but thought I'd highlight it.

    My Spankin' New Stetson

Nice lid. It looks a lot like the hat worn in my avatar by "John Smith" from "back East". The brim looks a bit narrower than my Adventurebilt. How many inches?

    CHECK OUT THIS!

I guess I just don't see it. A rising tide will lift all boats, and if it IS a fad ( which I'm guessing it will be) then more power and appreciation to artisans making the genuine artical. Quality is quality. I just don't see how a trend or fad could hurt, no matter how fleeting....

    CHECK OUT THIS!

Craig, what would be your point if it WAS a fad?

    CHECK OUT THIS!

"A rising tide lifts all boats.." This trend can only be good news for hat makers and those of us who regularly wear a lid. The idea of a fedora going for over a $1000 is just crazy, but if it helps the industry of artisan hat makers I'm all for it.

What kind of face/body can pull off a high crown?

I'm a member of the big fat head club myself, at 7 3/4 or 62 metric. Height is 6 even and I weigh about 200lbs. I wear an Adventurbilt ( adventurebilthats.com) fedora with a 5" crown and am very happy with it. I find it's just right for my head. They also have a well deserved rep for being...

    Dave Brown Hats

For the record, I have one Adventurebilt, and recently ordered a second before the price increase next year. I can attest to the fine quality, customer service, and attention to detail. I just happened across the site and was curious if anyone had any dealings with Mr. Brown. The price for...

I DID use the search function, and got the phone book. I didn't see a thread strictly about Dave Brown Hats. Anyone have the url?

    Dave Brown Hats

Has anyone had a hat made by Dave Brown Hats? Evidentally he's a major player for Hollywood films, having made hats for Road to Perdition, Last Man Standing, Chicago, etc. If any member can speak to general customer service, hat quality, etc, that would be swell. Regards! Vintage

The Indiana Jones jacket. Much hype, little substance?

My two cents: I could care less if the Indy jacket was "historically accurate", "period correct" or whatever. I wear vintage, or vintage style such as the Indy jacket, because it reflects not so much the past, or period accuracy, but my IMAGINATION of the past, which is very much a...

    "Deadwood" hats

When in doubt, go straight to the source! When in doubt, get it from the horses mouth. I believe the hats were made by Smithbilt hats in Alberta, Canada. You can even buy your own replica by going to: thelastbestwest.com and clicking on "movie hats" one and two. If not the actual makers, they...

    Cologne and perfume

Gotta admit I have a weakness for a woman wearing Channel 5. Of course it's all a matter of personal taste and the way the perfume reacts to your body chemistry. A lot of the modern fragrances have WAAAAAAY to much alchohol in them, you can smell 'em a mile out! I'm a firm believer in the...
