I envy you. I used to hike the trail years ago, usually in segments of two or three days (once for a week) and covered most of it over the years from the Delaware Water Gap down to Bristol, Tennessee. My main concern these days would be ticks and the Lyme disease they carry, so I'd want anything...
For the life of me, I can't understand why anyone would have a problem with this. Since my undergraduate days I've carried a shoulder bag if I was going to be out all day, and I toted books, newspapers, umbrellas, scarves, Kleenex, pens and paper, and other useful items and never once thought...
Last summer I was trying to return a hat to Peters Bros. in Texas, so I brought it in its box to the local Fedex office, pointed out to the guy there where, on the return label, the hat had to go, paid, and left. Two days later I found a box on my doorstep: The idiot had sent it to me. Not much...
Interesting. The Bencraft ones now come in 2 1/2" brims only. I almost fell over when I just checked the site: they've got a new web site design! Wonders will never cease.
I've always liked the Alessandria but thought the smaller (2 1/2") brim didn't suit it. Your hat is something of a revelation to me, as it just looks "right." When and why did they switch to the smaller brim? Your hat was a great find: in fact, I'll keep it in mind for my next custom.
You'd never catch a woman doing stuff like this. The inexplicable urge to not leave well enough alone and to mess with things belongs purely to guys. I had a friend once who worked hard to get a GTO, then he rarely got to actually drive it because it was always in little piles of parts all over...
Sorry to hear about your trouble. You never know what can happen to a delivery: they can get held up at customs for no apparent reason, get sent on the wrong plane, etc. I've had delivery times vary on my Akubras from a week and a half to a recent one that came in four days. Waiting for a hat...
I bought it at an Army/Navy store and always assumed it had something to do with waterproofing. You're probably right about the smell, but I wore it anyway for a number of years and loved the hell out of it. That coat, a navy blue turtleneck, jeans, and army boots were pretty much my attire for...
I remember that my pea coat that I bought in the early '70's (one of the best coats I've ever owned) had a kerosene smell. Is that still found with the Kerseys?
