I can't find the original thread, but there was a discussion of the "Magnum" shirt a while back, and someone here wanted it in purple, well I've obeyed the rule and not posted a link, but there's one on the bay right now.
I found a D/B suit out in the country for 5 bux, one 1/4" moth hole on the front near the lapel, three on rear of sleeve, and two on the back leg of the trousers. worth persevering with I think (if I can find a decent invisible mender within an hour's drive), but can anybody date the outfit, the...
I wore my recently aquired Burberry classic trenchcoat in a heavy downpour yesterday, and it didn't take too long for the water to seep through on the sleeves, I was shocked because I've also got an Aquascutum, and that will keep you dry in the heaviest precipitation. Am I expecting too much, or...
Look what I found at a market for 2 bux, this is a 1945 issue Pulp, (and I use the word advisedly, it's all paper) Novel, about a PI, written and printed in Australia, but as was the custom here in those days, set in Chicago. They never set them here, believing apparently that no-one would read...
pity there aren't more old time shots of the shopfront, but it hasn't changed since the 30's

I read recently that castor oil was good for leather lounges, so I bought some and applied it to the stiff-as-a-board old jacket I got last week (see thread below), the effect has been dramatic, I'd always used neatsfoot oil for such work but I was also recently told by a saddler that it rots...
Found this on Feebay for 25 bux, best condition coat of its vintage (late 40's?) I've ever seen, all the lining is good as new, which is rare, and it's a tight fit but still OK. I have three other Oregon brand coats, and this is a welcome addition
note the side buckle..pretty eh?
As a writer of period fiction I'm always keenly interested in the slang of the past: an English friend of mine was telling me his father's worst insult was to call a man a 'ponce' which meant a man who lived off the prostitution of his wife/woman, as distinct from a pimp or brothel owner. The...
Found an old suit the other day, single breasted single button, looked 30's going by the very old label and some other clues, great fabric, and fit well, but just a bit too beat up for serious wear unfortunately, never seen one button like this before...any clues?
Just picked up a Stetson Open Road 3 beaver that is in excellent condition but for the fact that John Goodman or someone similar sat on it, it's squashed flat! I'm going to try and reblock it but would starch be good idea? It's got serious rigidity problems. and the pie block has been well and...

Some of the re-enactment chaps might find this site interesting, it's not just Australian stuff.

As an experienced vintage clothes seeker, I was called upon to give advice to a neophyte recently, and advised them that anything that had the words:classic, vintage, authentic, or original, on the label was most unlikely to be any of the above. Some of the fake retro labels are laughable...
