Mind the asymetric front and back of the standard 30s HB. The HB appears longer in a frontal shot but might in fact have a shorter back length than the Hghwmn...
Thanks everybody for your comments.
Butte, I think your jacket look s fine. You can tell from the close-ups that your sample is a quality jacket. I also like the contrast between collar and leather. Very classic!
Some facts and opinions.
- The jacket was bought from the German end of...
Thanks MRC and Dave! The pics give a totally wrong impression of the weather. When I took the photos it was very cold and very windy which doesn't show.
Not sure if this method works on a Wested because years ago they used to use a strange Goatskin which had a felt backing glued to it to give...
I've heard the same. But I'm sure that the issued ones don't have a real mouton collar. It will be the ubiquitous acrylic pile shit that can be found on many recent models. But I'm glad that The Cockpit refuses to make G1s from that infamous cowhide with embossed goatskin grain...
Thanks, everybody!
HD, yes the collar is genuine mouton which used to be super smooth beaver lamb prior to "felting". It's still soft and cosy but much more curly and the shine is gone. I prefer it that way because it gives a more rugged and worn-in look. I'm not sure if this effect could...
It’s the old spray bottle trick again! This time used on a brand new Mil Spec G1 made by the Cockpit (formerly Avirex). When the jacket arrived I was impressed by how well it was made…
….Although it’s certainly not up to the same degree of quality or as heavy as an Aero M422a or its Eastman or...
Thanks Peacoat! The leather is a waxed cowhide nubuck which was sort of brickred before I waxed it. I've used Barbour dressing and a hair dryer to melt the wax in. It took a while but the result is a good match.
Quite interesting that the RW Iron Ranger isn't really dyed at all. If you use hot...
Thanks everybody!
I used a vice, a hammer and a couple of pliers to solve the problem. None of them really worked to flatten the rivets without damaging or scuffing the uppers. I've used a dremel to round just the sharpest edges. The horsehide patch should be durable enough. And as long as...
Modified and repaired Red Wing Iron Rangers
Morning all!
My Iron Rangers suffered from a worn through tongue because a couple of the hooks were not properly flattened. This seems to be the fact with a number of RW models.
The disease:
The remedy (step one). Piece of horsehide glued over...
It must have something to do with the A2 having a small windflap whereas the G1 uses a wider but hidden windflap. If you would use a size 10 paperclip zipper on an A2 the slider would be too beefy and the zipper would be too wide to be fully covered by the flap and/or the flap would not be able...
The A2 is not intended to be worn with much layering. Shirt, Polo-shirt or thin single ply sweater...nothing thicker! If you stick to that rule a size 44 will fit. The 42-... contract is by far the most generous fitting A2 Aero offers. Have you also considered the Bronco? It's slightly trimmer...
Wet the inside of the sleeve with a spray bottle and warm water...then wear it indoors until it's dry. That helps to settle the fleece where the sleeve is little tight. It works and does no harm to the jacket.
It will be as good as new once it's been properly dry cleaned. The gaseous/liquid aliphatic compounds i. e. Cyclobutane etc. will deactivate/destroy and remove all mold spores. The bad smell will also be gone after dry cleaning... Remember: Full service. Maybe you will have to repeat that but...
