I dropped in our local hospital thrift shop today. No good coats. No suits. nasty '70's ties. But up on top of the rack were two hats. There was a fedora and a slouch hat.
The slouch was nothing to speak of- floppy wool felt- came from LL bean.
but the fedora- I tried it on. It was a tad...
anybody have any pictures or know anything about it?
we recently got a statue from the lithuanian embassy with tags indicating it was displayed at the 1939 worlds fair. It's terra cotta and of cows, and it's signed. Beyond this, I know nothing.
I got my brents today. Amazing how fast they came.
I really like them both.
the brown/ green stingy I've shaped into a porkpie.
The light grey one is great. It has a few minor moth nibbles- nothing serious.
the color in the picture's funky- but it shows a little more than the ebay one...
Half lined hats?
Does anyone else have a champ featherweight. Mine only has the plastic center part, not the rest of a full liner. Are they all like this, or did something happen to mine.
here's the hat
I have myself a new old stock Adam hat. It's a size 7. It's in its original box, with all tags, and original Adam tissue paper. It has a bound brim and 1.5 inch grey ribbon, both done in an interesting staggered gossgrain.
The brim is 2.5 inches.
It has a teardrop crown.
I'm asking 60 bucks.
well- as of now, all my hats have been in person purchases. I finally took the plunge last night, and bid on these two Brent hats. I'm not too wild about the stingy, but I love the light grey one. It's got such a spiffy band. so- two hats for under 30 bucks including shipping.
I'll see what...
It's kind of late to post this now- but I forgot.
There's a thing going down at the Bay Way Diner in Linden, NJ tomorrow.
It's a cool little 9 stool diner that was just redone. It's very nice.
I'll be there, as will the rest of Roadside Magazine.
Looks like there will be some old cars as...
what the devil is a tie stretcher?
I saw one at an antique store recently. Looked very old, made of metal, shaped like a triangle. Labeled "german necktie stretcher"
why would you want to stretch a tie?
pardon my ignorance, but I've just never heard of such a thing.
well, I finally got it in my hot little hands. J.W. Marriott's other hat.
here's the label on the box. you're going to want to click to enlarge
more pictures are on the way
I've been noticing with a majority of my hats that the dent on the right hand side (if you are wearing the hat) are larger than the ones on the left hand side. Has anyone else seen this.
my guess is people handling the hat by the crown, bushing in with their thumb.
I was cruising ebay, and I ran across this ad. What would you call this style of hat, or at least the brim. can't say I've ever seen anything quite like it.
do you ever see a hat somewhere you just can't leave behind no matter how many sizes away from fitting it is?
I recently picked up the gorgeous Adam at an antique store in Hanover, PA. It's an Adam Premier Executive in a "chrome" color. Size seven. The tag in it reads "Adam- Premier...
What I have here for sale is a Bond fifteen fedora.
It's black, with a creme colored satin liner.
The felt is in very nice condition, with no moth bites anywhere, and no discoloration.
The plastic in the liner is slightly discolored.
The brim is an inch and three quarters, and it sports a...
well- I found two NOS stetsons today at an antique store. I was tempted, but they were just a tad too small. One was a light grey 1940's imperial stetson, and the other a 1950's stingy brown one. Both were 7- 1/8. Just too small. And each of 'em was 35 bucks. Not a bad price, but being a...
Yep- I now am the proud owner of a Borsalino previously owned by J Willard Marriott. The shipping label on both the hatbox this hat came in as well as another hat in the same antique mall booth were both addressed to him.
Even if it wasn't his hat, or there was another J.W. Marriott living...
I just got a bond 15 at a yard sale for a buck. It's a black stingy brim (1.5 inches) with a tall crown and a creme satin liner. It's a little tight on me, but for a buck, you can't go wrong.
anyone know about bond?
I've never seen them before.
My mom found me this one while I was at camp in Virginia. Does anybody know anything about it?
The brand is Manhattan.
it says "one of america's fine hats"
the size tag says "custom made"
It's black, with a black bound edge/
the hatpin is three flying birds
well, I snagged an old grey knox fifteen today for 30 bucks at an antique mall. it looks brand new condition wise. Original price, $15.00.
fits perfect, and it came from a local store that's long out of business, making it all that much cooler.
