After days of a blistering heat wave (that killed 6 people on the East Coast!), NYC got blasted by thunder, lightning and torrential rain! Crazy cloud formations and an eerie, foreboding light just before the thunderstorms hit. I wore my G-1 “just in case” and I’m glad I did! The goatskin is...
This being the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon landing, I thought I’d mention my own humble link to that momentous occasion: back in 2014, Navy helicopter squadron HS-4 flew my Navy Reserve unit out to our ship in Hawaii and it’s the same helicopter squadron that performed the Apollo 11...
Rainstorm (and a very rare NJ tornado!) moved thru the area so the temperature has dropped; broke out my G-1 as I oversee a little marine salvage operation in NY harbor.
Ha! Thanks @El Marro! These jackets are relatively common so I wouldn’t go too high on the offer, unless it was a rare extra large size or had some provenance (sewn on Nametag, aviator wings, squadron patch, etc). Anywhere from $100-$200 would be fair, in my opinion.
Looks like a dynal (synthetic) collar, well-aged, vintage goatskin (not cowhide) and standard “paper clip” zip made of aged brass. Not much else to go on.
My guess is that it’s a 1970-73 G-1, either a late D or early E production.
Perhaps a Star Sportswear.
Too hot to wear anything but a t-shirt but in the mail today I did just receive my newest acquisition: a Filson “Ranger” lightweight oil cloth bomber jacket (stock photo off the ‘Net).
Found it for half-price, brand new, on the ‘Bay.
Jacket has a full lining, 2-way zipper, real horn buttons...
Here’s a better pic of my 1980’s Willis & Geiger A-2 in natural light (pictured on the hood of my wife’s red Ferrari, uh, I mean Honda Fit:D).
I believe that this A-2 is one of the rare horsehide model W&G A-2’s; you can see the light russet brown color under the medium seal brown topcoat in...
Spent afew days in the Catskills mountains; mostly sunny and warm followed by sudden afternoon/evening rain storms with lots of thunder, lightning and temperatures plunging into the mid 50’s. LW goatskin G-1 (again).
Lost Worlds G-1 (my daily-wearer the past few months) during a torrential downpour as I climb around the ship repair yard.
The LW goatskin is by far the best I’ve ever experienced!
