An easy way to add pockets to a N-1 deck jacket is to sew in a patch pocket along the inside bottom hem area. Just sew right thru the pile liner; I usually put one on each side for additional storage.
Tropical Storm Isaias assisted me in adding some character to my LW Rigger (dumping a ton of rain on NYC and softening up the 4oz HH).
This jacket deserved some clear, focused pics instead of my usual blurred “action” photos
“Hurricane” (Tropical Storm ?) Isaias hit us with torrential rain and strong gusty winds. The LW Rigger was up to the task, the Horsehide repels rain almost like Gore-Tex! Lots of graining popping up and she’s breaking in nicely.
I just picked up this very old Avirex G-1 (1979 vintage!) off the ‘Bay for $80. The super grainy goatskin of the Avirex jacket is the exact same color and weight as on my 1941 Willis & Geiger M-422a!
Avirex started making repro WWII jackets in 1975 and back then their quality, materials and...
That is an amazing find @Maverickson! The SWITLIK M-422 is certainly the rarest of the M-422 jackets.
Do you have any details on the b/w photo that you posted? What aircraft is in the background and what squadron it is, or when the photo was taken? Just curious. The jacket in the pic definitely...
Yes I was there. The first 3 boats on the scene rescued all the passengers; I brought in police and rescue divers who searched the still floating plane. I also retrieved lots of drifting luggage, clothing, airplane seat cushions, life jackets and the aircraft door!
The pic shows my boat (I’m out...
Putting some “mileage” on the LW Rigger (as much as possible during these summer months). Got caught in afew vicious thunderstorms and the LW Horsehide just shrugged off the rain. Amazing stuff!
@Bfd70 no worries my friend, it’s a bit of both! Halfway thru the journey I started to look more for G-1’s rather than A-2’s. And the last couple of years I wanted a civilian-style jacket rather than a military one. It’s kind of like switching from vanilla to chocolate to strawberry as your...
Thanks @Robbie79! That first jacket was a size 44 regular and I wore that one just about every day for 10 or 12 years. It looked incredible. Sadly I outgrew it. Had to sell it and bought a 46 Long (which I still have, going on 10 years now).
My Rigger is a 48 Long (bit of extra room for a...
Here is a cool juxtaposition: I found an old photo from 1996 when I visited the U.K. and was wearing my first Lost Worlds jacket, an A-2. I’m in the British War Museum where they had the tail section of Rudolf Hess’ Me110 on display (the plane he flew from Germany to Scotland in 1941 when he...
Very interesting 1960’s photos of Navy icebreaker USS ATKA doing a resupply of some base in Antarctica. Among the clothing worn are some A-2 deck jackets and the Chief in his khaki uniform (with CPO cap!) riding a landing craft on the way ashore.
