This one arrived today. Firmly in the 1950s, very clean and the leather appears exceptional. It will most definitely benefit from conditioning, as it's super stiff. It has an interesting collar reminiscent of my Lawrence half-belt. The epaulette studs are a nice feature.
What's...
Comparing a vintage (circa late 1950s to mid 1960s) one-star Schott Perfecto to a 613SH Schott Perfecto from 2018.
The vintage one is steerhide (size 44). The new one is horsehide (size 40).
I thought placing them side-by-side with detailed images would be of interest.
I purchased this coat directly from Carhartt during an employee sale in 2006. Worn very sparingly. It's in great shape with minimal wear. No stains, rips, holes. Zippers work perfectly. Since losing weight several years ago, this has hung in a closet.
This coat is designed to cut down the...
Lately, there's been some discussion about the short length of vintage leather jackets compared to today's offerings. I thought it would be fun to dedicate a thread to them.
Show us your short vintage jackets and how you rock 'em. Tell us what you wear with them so they appear in-proportion...
I posted elsewhere about a 1940s Windward jacket that's much too short for me at 21". At the same time, I recognize the relative scarcity of this piece.
I have the option to return it to the seller for a refund. It was not an expensive purchase. But I'm wondering if it would be profitable to...
As many of you know, I just purchased a Schott 613SH. The label says "Made in the USA of imported materials." Being curious, I asked Gail on the Schott forum about the source of the horsehide. She said it's sourced from Italy.
Does that mean it is Vicenza horsehide? I'm not quite sure what...

Circa 1970s Lesco Cafe Racer w/liner
This Lesco cafe racer has that mottled/marbled brown black steer or cowhide that is really special. I tried to capture this in my photos, especially of the back. The leather is quite nice, thicker and softer than my 1970s Brooks gold label CR. Nice leather...
I've had my eye on a few Schott jackets but am wondering if they are known for doing Black Friday or Cyber Monday sales?
Seems to me Schott does a year-end factory seconds sale, but that works best if you can make it to NYC.
Which of your jackets gets the most attention? I mean in-person comments or non-verbal cues (either positive or negative) from people outside your family and close friends.
I wear leather jackets because I enjoy them, not to seek attention. But I think it's interesting to note which ones get...
I found an interesting jacket at a vintage clothing store yesterday. It's labeled "Briar Club" by M. Breier's Sons (different spelling). The tag below that is even more interesting: "Genuine Horsehide Made Exclusively for Defense Workers."
Four-button front with two hand warmer pockets with...
I've had my eye on the Schott 619 for a while now. Today, I came across an online seller called Celeb Leather Jackets that listed it at $149 (on sale from $169).

If you've checked out the various threads at FL about the Walter Dyer brand, you already know its reputation as being among the top makers of serious motorcycle jackets for riders. This jacket is no exception.
Made in the USA from thick, pebbled cowhide
Snapped cafe-racer style collar

Nearly all my leather jackets over the past few years have been second-hand, mainly because I've found great bargains and the new "drool-worthy" ones are beyond my budget.
Through this journey, I've come to a greater appreciation of buying new and seeing the jacket acquire patina and watching...
I mentioned this jacket in the "how many new jackets do you have coming?" thread. It arrived and because of the number of photos and relative rarity of the brand, figured I'd start a new thread.
It has nice thick horsehide that is pretty well preserved except for the right shoulder, which is...
Wondering what impressions folks have of the Schott 90th anniversary Perfecto jacket, which is available today in a limited release of 500 pieces.
On its Instagram feed, Schott says the jacket is cowhide. When I asked about the "steerhide" label, Schott offered this response:
"The short...
COOPER A-2 goatskin jacket
Made in the USA, circa early 1990s
Tagged size 40 (please see measurements)
This is a nice A-2 replica with correct fittings and design as the WWII original jackets. Per member @HanauMan, this example is the civilian version of the A-2 jacket that Cooper supplied to...
EDIT: Gail at Schott refined the date of production to between 1984-1992.
This Perfecto 125 dates from between 1984-1992, based on the YKK main zipper, Ideal sleeve zippers, Schott logo lining, and lack of a barcode on the product tag.
The durable naked cowhide is soft and nicely broken in...
