I love old shoe shine stands, from the one in the Brooks Bros. on Madison to downestairs at Harrod's, at gentlemen's clubs and trainstations everywhere. That said, I still mostly do my own. I really enjoy it. I have been known to make guests take off their shoes while I shine them--appalling...
There is a new bar opening downtown called Salvage--everything in it has been salvaged from old buildings in Los Angeles--should be very cool. It is in the ground floor of the Roosevelt lofts on 7th Street, accross from Macy's. Should be opening any day now....
From a man's point of view, I have to say that nothing smells as good as Shalimar. It is as famous as it is for a reason. It smells as great on your grandmother as it does on a nubile young 18 year old. In fact, your grandmother probably wore it as an 18 year old! Guerlain makes wonderful...
