One thing I haven't yet added to my collection of vintage suits is a tux. Since I prefer to buy second hand at thirft shops and unclaimed baggage outlets, I enjoy the challenge of finding just the right look and fit by chance. I have come across quite a few tuxes, but none that were exactly...
The building itself is still there. I don't know of it's current condition. It's probably been close to ten years since we looked at it, so it very well could have been totally rennovated by now. But who knows? At the time the building was up for sale for just a little over 100K.
I live over...
This thread reminds me of a similar experience I had several years back. Me and a filmmaker friend of mine were scouting around, oddly enough, looking for locations to shoot a short film noir. We found entrance (an unlocked basement door) to an old, five story bank building in downtown...
OK, I'll play along . . . .

Just for fun I thought I'd share a photo of my latest suit. It's a little different.
Custom made for me by a leading costumer for the professional ETA trade, it's a copy of the "Spectrum" suit worn by Elvis Presley in his 1971/72 Concert Tours.
Yea, I admit it, I'm a closet ETA. I wore...
That's exactly what I've been wearing for the past several months. It joins my other stainless Submariner Date (black bezel) that's several years old - the classic "Bond" watch. Also prized is my Stainless (pre TAG) Heuer Professional 1000 dive watch that was the very last thing my father bought...
The economic base could be the town itself. The atmosphere as a tourist attraction. B&Bs, antique shops, cool bookstores and coffee shops. Internet business's is also an option. With internet commerce, you can make a living anywhere.

My all time favorite has to be the often overlooked Dead End.
Some don't even consider it noir, as I guess it actually pre-dates the classic noir period. But to me it has all the earmarks of the genre - and it has Bogey for God's sake. What more could you want?

I saw Flyboys tonight. Besides me and the misses, there was one other person in the theatre. County Fair is still in town.
But I enjoyed the movie, historical blunders, "red barons" and all. I don't think any more artistic license was taken with this movie than with any golden age war...
Is this all an academic exercise or are any of yous guys really serious about this whole creating a town idea?
Because if you are serious, and don't have any aversions to the glorious Southland, that would be the idea place to do it.
Land is cheap and there are small, all but deserted...
I kinda figured that one out after reviewing the episode in question. My mistake. I'd even forgotten that Hanks did indeed have a small role in it.

I haven't read through this entire thread, so I don't know if this has been mentioned before or not, but it's seems like a heard many years ago about a group of people who got together to try to create their own version of "Mayberry". Never heard any more from it, so I don't know how successful...
I just found plenty of copies of "Perfect Crimes" - Volumes 1, 2 and 3, and the box set - all on eBay, but they from the UK and all say region 2 encoding. Not sure if any of my DVD players will play it. Anyone found it in region 1?
-MC
If it's ever been put out on DVD I have not yet found it. I have both volumes of it on VHS, but would love to have it on DVD. You can find VHS copies on eBay from time to time. In fact, Vol#2 was up for auction earlier today but I think it ended already.
I highly recommend it for any noir fan...
OK, I have it. It's on tape #2. Hanks is directing, but not starring. Not about a hitman in Chinatown though. That threw me. I thought I was missing something.

The Oldman story (Dead end for Delia) is my favorite. But I don't recall one with Hanks, nor any about a hitman in Chinatown. Are you sure that's part of the series? It's not amoung the six tales listed in the book or on the two VHS tapes. Were there more? Maybe a second season?
-MC
I have both the book and both videos. I keep hoping someone will put out all six tales on one DVD, maybe with bonus behind the scenes extras.
A great series.

I think most of you guys are way too hung up on the idea of 100% period correct detail. Remember these filmmakers are appealing to a general public that does not share our interest or knowledge of period style. They only expect a good story told with a little cinematic style.
If they were to...
I saw The Black Dahlia last Monday night in an all but empty theatre. There were 7 people present - My wife and myself, two other couples, and one lone male. But it was a slow night for the entire movieplex - opening night for the county fair. There may have been a dozen cars in the parking lot...
