I know Mayberry was based loosely on Mount Airy, but isn't the town as it exists today, with it's population of over 10,000, just a bit too big to make a convincing Mayberry? I imagine Mayberry to be a sleepy little town of about 500 to 600 people, max.
Menu tonight at Crunk Manor: Pasta Salad w/chicken, grated cheddar, black olives, cherry tomatoes, feta cheese crumbles, and creamy poppyseed dressing. Followed by grilled italian-marinated chicken strips on a bed of rice.
I think my hatred of Crocs is because they are a very in-your-face reminder of just how far the general public's fashion sense has fallen. It's about the same as wearing house shoes in public.
I absolutely hated Crocs from the beginning, but my wife loves them and has countless pairs. Then they came out with the Crocs that look like Converse Chucks, only a lot more comfortable. I still have a love/hate relationship with them, but I will wear those to work. However, I still will not...
I have had two occasions in my life where I had to pull my gun to thwart would-be criminals. Both times I was absolutely prepared to shoot them if need be, but luckily didn't have to. One ran away after I fired a warning shot over his head and into the oak tree behind him, and the other I held...
I was getting from $5 to $10 each plus making a couple bucks on shipping.
By the way Jamespowers, did you ever dig out that bird tie (like Steve Martin's from DMDWP) you were talking about? I'd still love to see pictures if you have time to post them. Would love to get my hands on one of...
With a vaulted ceiling like that, I think (once you remove the popcorn) some faux beams, very dark and heavy looking, would add a 20s/30s Spanish-influenced California feel to the room, especially if you could add an arched doorway or two.
Just an observation: A year or so ago I started selling vintage ties on eBay. I noticed that about 90% of my buyers were either from the NYC area or south Florida. I'm guessing that's somehow linked to the banking/financial industry being about the last hold-out where a suit and tie is still...
Depending on how many you want, if you could find a good vintage example of what you're looking for on eBay or somewhere, you might find a local ceramics shop who could pull a mold from it and cast a small run for you.
I don't own any true vintage jeans, but I buy all my jeans at thrift stores, usually for from $3 for off-brands, up to $5 or $6 per pair for Levis or Carhartt. Since they are pre-owned, they come naturally distressed like those folks are paying $200 for at upscale stores.
I think the key word here is "her". My guess is she was a stylist, not a barber, correct? Hate to sound sexist, but I believe barber shops to be the domain of men. Guys just make better traditional barbers.
You could say anything you want, but that does not make it so. Being burdened indirectly by someone, such as having to pay higher taxes and premiums because of their irresponsible behavior, does not make you a direct victim, but an indirect one. In that sense we are all victims of all crimes...
Well, in my community we find it wrong that a man can get 20 years behind bars for growing a couple of pot plants in his backyard, while a robber or rapist gets five. There is something very wrong with that and it happens all the time.
