Personally, from this man's perspective, I much prefer soft curves. I fail to understand why any man would want a "hardbody" woman. To me defined abs are very unattractive (on a woman). In fact just about any defined muscle group on a woman just makes her look masculine. Not at all attractive...
If you think old traditional country is dead, listen to Wayne Hancock, Chris Scruggs, BR549, Johnny Dilks, Joel Paterson & The Modern Sounds, Junior Brown and more. You won't hear them much on the radio, but they are out there, putting out new country music just like it was played in the 50s...
Don't know if I'm older than you or just in a cheaper part of the country, but I remember it at .55 cents a gallon when I was first old enough to notice. I believe it was still just shy of a dollar a gallon when I started driving.
I don't know if this has been mentioned before, as I admit I have not read all 294 pages of this thread, but getting back to the "Vintage Things That Have Disappeared In Your Lifetime" . . . here's one that just occurred to me: Shoe shine stands. I remember seeing them around as a kid, but can't...
Well, I'm neither a Texan nor a cowboy. I'm a proud Southern city slicker. We put beans in our chili, but not in our chili sauce or beef stew. We put tomatoes in darn near everything. No one would mistake our chili for our beef stew, as our beef stew has a totally different flavor all...
Tonight's dinner at Crunk Manor: a delicious homemade chili . . . quite possibly the best I've ever made. Made it late last night when it was too late to go shopping, so I made do with what I had in the pantry: No tomato sauce or chili sauce in the house so I used tomato soup and Sloppy Joe...
Wish I'd learned of this sooner. I'd have driven to Memphis to see it. Never been to the Orpheum. The Alabama Theater in Birmingham plays it from time to time, but I don't see it on this years schedule. They usually screen a few noirs per year, some classic horrors in October and Christmas...
What a crock! I disagree with most of the items on that list. Indeed, if you followed their recommendations, there'd be little left to buy from yard sales. Silly.
Haven't actually done it since the early 90s when GPS started getting popular and affordable. Not even sure it would be possible today, as I haven't seen a printed nautical almanac in years. I suppose they are available online, but that kinda defeats the purpose, don't it?
The nature of my "day" job dictates the late hours I keep: usually getting to bed around 3 or 4am. I get up before 11am and am due at work by noon. I get off work between 10pm and midnight, or sometimes later.
OK, here's my short list (top ten):
1. Play an upright bass, Hawaiian/non-pedal steel guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin, uke and other stringed instruments.
2. Fly a vintage Piper Cub.
3. Sail a gaff-rigged sailboat without a motor.
4. Navigate at sea without GPS - using a compass and sextant...
Saw 1982's "Hammett" last night on Netflix. I wasn't even aware of this film until I just happened across it while browsing the titles. Pretty good job of recreating that detective noir atmosphere. An enjoyable watch.
Here lately I've been watching old episodes of The Untouchables on youtube. I watch one just about every night after dinner, or sometimes during dinner.
