DEATHS ; Notable Passings; The Thread to Pay Last Respects

So did I. She was this young boy's ideal of the beautiful leading lady.

Who got the oldest computer-contest! ;-)

I had one of those brand new (128k memory, no HD) that I sold and replace with a 1986 Mac SE, that I still own. Over the years I replaced everything except the monitor and the power supply. Effectively, I turned it into a Mac SE30, with 4Mb RAM (and RAMDoubler, which made it seem as if it has...

How many new jackets do you have coming (and how many potential ones)?

It's mid-January now, and my new Aero A-2 is due to ship soon. I'm looking forward to it.

A couple of fashion pet peeves...

I'm too old to be a "hipster wannabe," but most of my hats are stingy brims. I have an Akubra Campdraft on order because I want to see what a larger brim will do for me (my earlier experiments with wider brims was a dismal failure).

A couple of fashion pet peeves...

This is why this thread is titled "pet peeves." In the grand scheme of things, what we think about how someone dresses or comports himself/herself doesn't amount to a hill of beans. I am reminded of the saying, "Having a resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to...

A couple of fashion pet peeves...

Here's another fashion pet peeve of mine (gosh, I didn't know I had so many until I came across this thread!): Untucked shirts. Oh, I don't mean polo shirts, although that's debatable, or t-shirts, or any of that uber-casual stuff. I'm talking about dress shirts worn with the tail out...

    Terms Which Have Disappeared

"Civility." Well, maybe it hasn't disappeared, but it's certainly on the endangered list.

So trivial, yet it really ticks you off.

Guys who wear hats indoors. Oh, it's okay walking through a grocery store or any place that's deemed public, but if you sit down, you ought to remove your hat. That is all.

    Lunch, Anybody?

I have never been known to turn down a lunch of pho.

A couple of fashion pet peeves...

I took a new tech job in 2001. The first day on the job I wore a navy suit, white shirt, red tie. I got some strange looks. The second day on the job I wore a camel hair sport coat, shirt and tie. The president of the company saw me (it was a small company) and told me that if I came to work...

    Brooks Brothers 200th Anniversary Book

I worked for Brooks Brothers in the late 1960s in mens clothing (suits). I helped open the Tysons Corner (Virginia) store. Brooks Brothers then and now, unless I miss my guess, is considered the gold standard for American men's clothing.

Why do you wear a fedora or cap?

I suppose like most boys, I liked donning hats to suit whatever game or fantasy I was playing. Cowboy hats, baseball caps, an Australian digger hat when I lived in Southeast Asia, scout hats, etc. When I got older and golfed with my dad, I would wear a cotton stingy brim/pork pie. Later...

    Post New Hats Here!

, Thanks, Mike. I'm beginning to find my way among this maze of terms and concepts. I'm actually quite amazed at the number of compliments I get about my hats. Just today, as I was walking down the sidewalk, bowler in bag and Flechet on pate, a complete stranger gave me effusive compliments...

    Post New Hats Here!

Long story short. OK, maybe not so short. I'm in California on business, and even before the trip I Googled hat shops near my destination (I have none near where I live). A surprise early end to the work day today, and the recent rain had given way to California sunshine, so I hopped in my...

Ask a question, get an answer

Just to be clear: I'm traveling to NORTHERN California, where the temps are in the 30s at night and 50s during the day. No Panama hat here! Besides, I'm letting my socks be my fashion statement this week! :)

Ask a question, get an answer

Okay, you sold me! I put some new spacers in my Flechet, and it's adorning my head as I type this in the boarding area. :)

Ask a question, get an answer

My question is so trivial that rather than start a new thread, I thought I'd just ask here. I have to travel to California for the week on business. I can take only one hat. As a veteran traveler, I can pack everything I need for a week into a single suitcase. I am very good at color...

    What are you listening to?

One of the most under-rated musicians of this generation, IMO. I wonder how many people know that Nesmith, whose major fame came from being one of the Monkees, won a Grammy (the first-ever for a long-form music video), was a pioneer in home video products as the founder of Pacific Arts, is an...

    What are you listening to?

I tuned into a Pandora station I created and then let sit for two years. I'm listening to a lot of "classic" songs from 60s and 70s, including alternate tracks, which to me are a real find! Stuff like Steve Winwood and an electric version of "Can't Find My Way Home," Boz Scaggs' "Somebody Lend...

    sterkowski caps

After a four week wait, I finally got my first Sterkowski fedora, and it's a keeper! Rabbit fur felt, full lining, leather headband, and a perfect fit! Not only that, but I got a Merry Christmas email from Piotr Sterkowski to boot!
