Death of one of "The Few"
We're losing the WW2 generation, and it seems like only yesterday that they weren't even middle-aged. The war still doesn't seem like 'history' to me, though. It's too recent for that. -
I Bought an ELC G-1 55J14 Jacket
I made an impulse purchase of a really nice Eastman Leather G-1 - ironically, it was sent from California, when I live less than 5 miles from ELC - I don't even want to think about the carbon footprint :eek: It ended up being a size too big - it's a 44 - and it's already gone to a good home...- pipvh

FS: Filson, WW2 Leather Jerkin
Almost the end of my grand spring cleaning: a piece of almost too genuine American workwear in the form of a very well-used Filson tin-cloth jacket and a British Army leather jerkin dated 1945. The Filson is style 64 which they don't make anymore, basically an unlined field coat in a size 44...- pipvh

Hmm. I used to find these quite easily in the States, but here... Try a haberdasher's - perhaps one of the ones on Berwick Street (if you're in London) or a trawl around Camden. An ebay search for chrome spots or nailheads might turn up something, though probably in the US. Or else you could buy...- pipvh

Looking at the title of this thread I thought the 'Seabiscuit' reference was just a snide word for horsehide - quite a few years ago I had a hh jacket that was referred to more than once as 'Shergar...' What a cool story - and a brilliant jacket. Irvin Foster made G-1 flight jackets for the US Navy in the 1960s. There's an extremely nice one here: http://moorecustom.com/jackets/G-1_7823A_IFoster_42.htm. Your jacket looks older, though - 50s at least, and the Conmar would back that up. But...- pipvh
