In a slightly different vein, but well worth your reading is 'Towards Tahiti' by W.I.B. Crealock (1954). Sailing the Pacific in a converted Brixham trawler. A good read.
Plus one on the Orient watch. They are excellent value. I wear an Orient Shark for harsh jobs (these last 5 + years) and can not fault it.
The Bambino is larger than most vintage watches, however many mid century watches (Doxa and Tissot come to mind) were close to this size in their time.
If the wobble feels like it is coming from the front end, try rotating the tyres and see if the wobble is coming from a different source. If yes, I would recommend a dynamic wheel balance from an alignment specialist.
I had a similar problem with a 49 Ford. When the tyre in question warmed up...
I understand the compressed board is called 'nelson board' or 'nelson panel' by motor trimmers. Not sure about the decorative aspects however.
