As much as I don't like the way it looks on me, I think I'm going to go with the Stetson All-American (made in China!), as it's crushable, lightweight, impregnated with Permethrin (insect repellent), has a chin strap, and cost me only $12. I think it will be perfect!
Here's a question for the assembled peanut gallery that only requires your opinion:
Tomorrow I am heading out for a long weekend men's retreat in southern New York. It's a nice, remote area in the woods on a lake, with no cell towers ("no service area") and no Internet. It's a bit rustic, and...
Just a note to the guys who wear cologne: Take it easy. I wore cologne when I was younger, but developed an allergic reaction to some scents. When I'm in the proximity of someone who has taken to marinating himself in fragrance, my gag reflex kicks in and I have to move.
I once shook hands...
I had an eBay search that was more for curiosity than anything else, but the other day I got a hit that caught my attention.
The very first guitar I bought new (I still have it, too!) was an acoustic 12-string. That was 47 years ago, and it was my only guitar for years. I played it both as...
Kee-rect! I'd previously had one or two small keratoses "burned" off by the application of liquid nitrogen. I guess it was too widespread on my pate, so the dermatologist just had me smear it with "miracle cream."
Thanks. That sounds like what happened AFTER I started applying the medication. Basically, I felt like I had dry skin before my dermatologist prescribed fluorouracil for it. He warned me it would turn my face into a wreck, but that it was temporary. My face is almost back to normal now.
I have no idea what you just said. "Polymorphic light eruption?" Poly = many, morphic = having shape or form. "Light eruption?" I can't figure this one out, so maybe it's the cause. All I know is that I'm fair-skinned, blonde (well, used to be) and blue-eyed. Our type doesn't take well to...
Thanks, Mike. I like it too, but I'm not informed enough to know what it is.
The hat arrived with a bit of "storage rash" - it was bent a bit too much on one side, and had a little smush on the back of the crown. Since I got it for a song, I didn't think it would hurt to steam it and let it...
I'm back in the game, folks. Here's the debut of my latest Stetson straw. Went to Wolf Trap last night and saw Jeff Beck with Ann Wilson of Heart opening. Awesome show!
I've been training a customer the last couple of days, so I was out of the office. I had a guitar case delivered to the office, so today I went to get it, and lo and behold, another package was sitting on my desk. You guessed it, it was this hat!
Thanks for the well-wishes, everyone. It certainly feels better to look better! I still itch, and there is still some redness, but it's oh, so much better!
As for the hat, I didn't bother to ask the seller, and believe he probably wouldn't know. He wrote on the listing, "My grandpa bought...
My skin problem recovery is coming along at a very nice pace. Today I got a haircut!
In celebration, I was browsing the Bay, spotted a hat and hit the button.
1960s Stetson Straw Fedora.
It was sized at 7 1/8 long oval, but the inside hatband measures 22 1/4", which I think will fit...
Yikes! Thanks, but no thanks. I have a certain gag reflex when I don some hats. They may look great on others, but on me, they'd only look good if I add a clown nose and wig to the look!
But as of today, I'm beginning my search. Casually, but knowing some of these hats take weeks to ship...
I'm going to take a 90° turn here for a moment: As soon as I'm over this nasty skin treatment to my pate, I'm going to celebrate and reward myself with a new hat. I haven't decided yet what it's going to be, but I'm going to announce it here!
Here's an update for the ages! Just today I received an email from the guitar maker, James D. Fellows! He saw the post here and sent me an email with some history of the instrument and some follow up. How cool is that???
I don't want to gross anyone out with photos, so let me just say that I decided to wear just one hat - a baseball cap - until I'm over my skin treatment. As @Redfokker said just recently, I don't want any of my hats to "suffer from the hairstyle products" I'm using to treat my condition.
Good...
No relation of which I am aware. I did some Google-fu and came up with nothing to tie them together. In fact, I found nothing for James D. Fellows guitar-maker at all!
