What's your favorite wide brim straw hat?

Beautiful hat Ole. I really like the ribbon color on it.

How do folks react to your hat wearing?

A couple of months ago my girlfriend broke her ankle. I took her to the emergency room when she broke it and was also there a few days later when she had surgery to install a plate and screws. Then about a month later my 85 year old mother had to have surgery. Two nurses and a doctor, that I...

    I love the Fed IV!!

If it was suppose to be a new model, that does look like a lot of taper for a Federation IV. My Fed has "Federation IV" stamped on the front of the sweatband. Post a pic of your sweatband. Maybe you did get an original Federation. If you did, it might have some extra value to a collector. I...

    Western, anyone?

Major Moore, I noticed this year at the San Antonio Stock Show and Rodeo that most all of the PRCA cowboys were wearing these wide and squared off brim type hats. Also, almost all were black. It used to be you hardly ever saw a black hat here because they were always associated with the "bad...

What's your favorite wide brim straw hat?

Here is a wide brim Milan that Art Fawcett (Vintage Silhouettes) made for me. The brim is 2 3/4". Beautiful hat. More pictures at the bottom of this page. http://www.vintagesilhouettes.com/Fedora_Lounge.htm

Greg, in the past there have been events called Fedorafest. I have never been but would like to go to one. Below is a link to the last one. http://www.thefedoralounge.com/showthread.php?64100-FedoraFest-IV&highlight=Fedorafest

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

They had another hat for sale with no definite size. The posted inner opening measurements indicated a bigger size but I was hesitant to depend solely on that measurement. The hat did look big to me in the photos so I asked them to look for a manufacturing label on this one too. Turned out to be...

Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

HB3, congrats on a nice hat. Looks like it is in nice shape. It is interesting that the area where the sweatband is joined together was placed on the side of the hat and not at the rear. This is the first time I have seen that configuration. Has anybody else seen this before on a vintage hat?

    The Resistol Roundup

Atticus, sorry to hear about the hat being damaged in shipping. I had that happen to me recently on a pristine Open Road. It was shipped in a flat rate box that was about 14" x 16" and only about 4" tall. The hat was crushed flat. Maybe that is why it is called "flat rate". I was able to steam...

    Australian Outback Collection - Jackeroo

Jeff, that one is still out there I guess. I've never actually seen one in the wild. Apparently they are very elusive. The only ones I have seen were stuffed and hanging on the walls of local watering holes :) Ole, that sounds like a pretty accurate description to me :)

    What is this hat?

Nice hat. The Bob Evans Farm is still in operation. Unless you are certain about the salesman story, the hat might have been sold from their gift shop back in the 50's or early 60's. http://www.bobevans.com/ourfarms/bobevansfarm/Default.aspx

Lol...Yep, that freshly mowed lawn smell wasn't near as nice if you were the one pushing the mower. I worked at a golf course when I was a teenager and loved the smell of the greens and fairways in the early morning after they were mowed. I obviously wasn't the one doing the mowing :)

Thanks Dale. I looked at Amazon earlier before I posted my question and this book looked pretty good but I thought I would ask here first before buying it. Zippo, An American Legend: A Collector's Companion by Avi Baer http://www.amazon.com/dp/076240700X/ref=pe_385040_30332200_TE_item...

    Stetson Exposition Medals

This type of design for a wind cord seems more versatile than the traditional design with the button on the end of the cord. With this configuration you could attach the cord to almost anything on your clothing. Whereas, if there is only a button on the end of the cord your options would be limited.

TopHatters (San Leandro) - In Memoriam of Ted & Marie Lee

John, I think it is great you were able to keep all this stuff together! Did they have many finished hats for sale? I really like the gray mid width ribbon hat sitting on a flange in one of the pictures.

    Australian Outback Collection - Jackeroo

Jeff, I didn't know Jackalopes could be found in South Dakota. I thought they were only indigenous to Texas. At least that is what I was told by an older cousin on my first hunting trip. :) All kidding aside, the Jackeroo is an Akubra model name and has nothing to do with the felt. Below...

I have quite a few Zippos I have picked up over the years. I've never really researched any of them though. Can anybody suggest a good reference book for Zippos? Also, is there a thread on the Lounge dedicated to Zippos? If so, I could not find it by a search. Thanks for your help.
