Landman could be correct. They may have just sold them in the farm's gift shop. After all, presentation hats usually have the recipient's name embossed in the sweat.

I'm near Columbus too! How come I never find anything like that in the thrift stores I go to! I can still remember Bob Evans appearing in his TV commercials. Definitely a nice find. I would guess '50s, but when did Stetson go to the square size tag and use the narrow black sweat band? I thought that was early '60s. What's the info on that?

I have assumed the black, squared off tag was first used in 1960 but I don't think there is anyone left alive to corroborate that. However, they also had an interim rounded tag that was all black with a gold size printed on it that shows up on early 60s hats once in a while, too. The manila card stock rounded tag that we think of from the 40s and 50s also was used for a short few years into the 60s. Probably just using up old size tag stock. The long oval ones were used for quite a few years into the 60s.

1960 was always my assumption for the square size tag too but I wasn't sure. I know there was also a time in the '60s that Stetson used a narrow black sweat band. Any thoughts on that one, as to when in the '60s?

Thanks for the info everyone.

Landman, I did check BEF website, but nothing concerning Stetson hats. I did find this article: http://investors.bobevans.com/releasedetail.cfm?ReleaseID=280369.

Mr. Harry Cahill received the Silver Stetson Award from BEF for sales. Mr. Cahill received an authentic Stetson hat, a silver belt buckle, a 10-carat gold ring, 25 shares of Bob Evans Farms stock and a plaque. Cahill's name will also be engraved on a plaque which recognizes him as a member of the Silver Stetson Club. According tho the article dated 1/9/2006 the Silver Stetson Award has been give each year for 41 years as of the year the article was published. So this may very well be an award from BEF to a salesman. I want to follow up on this with BEF, find out which hats have been awarded over the years. I live just an hour away, it may be worth the trip to tour the farm and garner any info available. I'll update if there's info to share.

Thanks Randooch for letting me know it's not bad manners to post a link to the auction. I want to post it soon, the more I look at this hat, the more I want to keep it.

And as Gary Cooper said as Sgt. York, "I be a thankin' ya"...as he fumbles with his hat in hand.

I believe that hat is older than the Silver Stetson Award. 41 years from 2006 puts it around 1965. That hat is probably from the late 50's or maybe early 60's. I guess they could have given out an older hat though. I also think they probably would have given out a felt Stetson but that is purely a guess. Let us know what you find out. That is a very cool hat.

Trying to Identify Model of Hat

Hi all -- first-time poster here. I'm trying (and struggling) to identify the model of a hat that really struck me a few weeks ago. Can anyone point me in the right direction here?

I say you refuse to dress like that. Why a fedora with a T-Shirt... I NEVER... oh, wait. wrong thread.

Looks like a nice one, though. Is that a bound edge brim? Looks like it as it seems to a line above and below in the pics. But, heck, it could be any number of fedora makers, specialist or mass produced.

Ha! Fortunately I'm not one to dress the same. I'm a button-up man myself, but I happened to catch a glimpse of this hat at a folk festival a few weeks ago and have been trying to identify it, or one very similar to it, since. It looks like a bound edge brim to me. I feared such in terms of ambiguity though. However, I've struggled to find similar color ways. I suppose that could point to it being customized, but who knows.

Definitely very similar! I haven't come upon any Brewsters that don't have a different color brim edge, but, apart from that, it seems very very similar to the felt Brewster.

Looking to learn

Hey guys, im new here. I basically signed up just to learn a few things about some fedoras i picked up.

I bought four of them at a garage sale for a dollar. They were sitting inside a beat up old hat box. I am having problems finding out much about them through internet searches. I have them listed on ebay with pictures and anything i could find on them.
Im not sure if posting ebay links here is allowed so if it is not please let me know and i will just copy paste the info and upload the pictures.

The listing can be found here - http://www.ebay.com/itm/171417147349?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1558.l2649

As a bonus question i was wondering if anyone knows anything about this hat manufacturer, i cant seem to find anything about them either.

I know this is a snapback hat but i figured a forum dedicated to hats someone has to know who it is. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

You're right the Brewster does have the brim binding that matches the bow

Never heard of the Tobias hats (but they ARE wool, so I wouldn't have paid attention). But the one Marked Penny's is from the chain J.C. Penny's. JCP sold fedoras for many years and were originally called "marathon" Hats. The German-styled hats are not my bag, either, but some here are interested in such hats.

Oh, and never use an apostrophe like that. It is fedoras (plural) or fedora (singular).

Hey thanks alot for the reply. I updated my post and fixed the apostrophe.

Would you have any idea on how to date the penny's hat? Or how to find the sizes of these hats. I used measuring tape and measured the inside of them but im not so sure that is an accurate way of determining their sizes.
