Interesting... my wear basically occurred from sitting with the jacket on, making coffee, etc. No hot water treatment or anything like that.
How old is your jacket, Cyber? Do you have any pics in its current state?
Appreciate the tip, FredS, but the last thing I want to apply on an expensive jacket like this is shoe polish, lol.
Happy to report that Aero has replied to my inquiry. I'll let you know what happens... perhaps in another thread. This one is getting too long!
I just recently sent an email w/ pic to Aero. And I didn't do it willy nilly. I've been on the fence for a while, not wanting to complain unless it was really justified. Unfortunately, the color fade is becoming a bigger issue as the weeks pass and I decided it was better to bring this to...
I apologize if I have been unclear, so let me state one more time, plainly.
The current aged look of my jacket appeared in 2 months of very light wear, mostly around the house. I am worried than in 1 or 2 years of normal wear, major patches of black color will be faded. That is what I do NOT...
I think you're confusing the term "patina." Patina is not just the brown hide color that is revealed when the dye is rubbed away (aka color loss). Patina is "additive" not lossy. Patina is an additional tarnish or sheen layer that appears on top of the existing dye with age.
Butte, the issue isn't the aging. It's the SPEED of the aging. I've worn that jacket indoors most of the time, trying to break it in. It's been outside in the "extreme" S. Calif fall weather about 6 times, lol. If this is the color loss after a 2 months of mostly indoor wear, well... you can...
Hi, WDW. I just wanted to post side pics of the two leather samples. The 2013 pic is zoomed in a little more (not intentional). The leather thickness is quite similar for both samples.
Perhaps, but that would be more worrisome. I've driven with it on about a half-dozen times. Honestly, I doubt it's seat belt wear. The color is just wearing off. There is also color fade on the right shoulder and up and down both arms, but not as much.
Okay, so here's some pics.
I'd like to make it clear:
I'm not blaming Aero in anyway. I'm sure there are fluctuations in leather (being an organic product). This is simply to show that variations exist.
Hopefully, this will help anyone considering a black FQHH CXL jacket.
Again, I don't...
I think there's some confusion as to the CXL process. As I understand it, the raw hides are TANNED twice. Once in a chrome salt chemical bath. This will turn the raw hides into "wet blue hides." Then these blue hides will be tanned again-- this time in a vegetable style tanning brew. This...
I have a feeling this color fade is worse on the black leather CXL. The brown leather probably masks the color fade and blends in...
On my black CXL FQHH jacket, there are already faded areas around the shoulders and underarms... and the most abuse it has seen is basically getting in and out...
Yes, CXL definitely ages faster. But I wish that this "aging" was consistent. As I stated before, some batches of the CXL leather seem to have a lot more dye penetration than other batches. I might post some pics soon showing what I mean...
I thought the issue was the staining (aniline hand rubbed coat) was coming off too soon? That's how CXL is dyed, I thought. So that's part of the OP's issue, no?
I think there is a lack of consistency in the horween CXL leather. I have several samples of the FQHH (all received years apart) as well as a recent Highwayman. On a black FQHH sample from 5-6 years ago, the dye is very stable and a can't scratch it off. On a recent FQHH sample, the dye is...
Thanks! I think even if the length were longer, you would still have the "tucking" issue. I have it with my Highwayman which is about 25.5" long in the back. Sometimes, you just have to tuck, lol.
