Interesting. I just called Alan at Johnson Leathers this morning to ask him about the possibility of doing a Trucker in Deer. And he informed me he also has a selection of Elk and Buffalo available. Choices choices. I've always been partial to the light brown buckskin color.
I have the exact same jacket - Aero Board Racer - Black Vicenza in a size 44. Practically brand new. If you're interested in buying a size larger, PM me. Cheers.
The stars down the sleeves are definitely a signature Bates style. I always thought that stars would be difficult to pull off...unless you're the kind that loves attention.
And here are two dark seal Vicenzas (and the Shinki.) The Vicenza on the far left is very different in color and grain than the earlier Vicenza in the middle. It's been my experience that horsehide varies greatly from batch to batch. And that's why I would never render an opinion condemning a...
So I'm just a little curious Fortehus- how many Aero Vicenza jackets do you or have you owned? And how many Aero FQHH or Steerhide jackets do you or have you owned? Just want to know what kind of first hand experience you're basing your opinions on- with regards to Vicenza, FQHH, and steerhide.
Over the years I've owned a few Aeros in the CXL HH and a few Vics. And slowly I've become a big fan of the Vic leather...it's just perfect for the windy and often cooler foggy weather around here. The hide hits that sweet spot of having enough weight and thickness to feel substantial, but still...
Are you sure that's Cal Leather? I thought Hard On Leathers made their own jackets. Maybe I was wrong...
Either way, that's more of a size 40 than 42...Damn.
Love the shoulder/elbow pads.
Absolutely a work of art! Love the top zip sleeves...and the collar is super sweet. This is one of the few jackets where it looks even better in the fit pictures. Hopefully you can put some miles on this one, kick it around the highway some, and get some age and character to it. Nicely done!
How did I miss this? Looks great on you! Maybe a little tight in the shoulders, but perhaps it's because you're layered up. Definitely much better without the belt...
I bought my Ridley (Dark Seal Vic) from Ksozay and I absolutely love it- one of my favorite jackets. Warning- be prepared to get...
I remember that Vanson Horsehide Trucker! I can only imagine if it was anything like this hide, then it was truly amazing.
BTW, even though I picked this up at the flea, the seller clearly knew what he had and that Vanson was a name to charge premium $$ for...and it wasn't exactly a steal...
I believe Kim (Vanson) said during this brief time they were making horsehide jackets they sourced it from somewhere else...but honestly that conversation was a long time ago, and I'm not really sure. But I've never handled any Horween quite like this stuff...it's insanely thick and heavy with...
Thanks for the info! It's definitely some of the heaviest hide I've owned. Way back when Vanson was in town doing a promotion, I asked Kim Vanson if they were ever going to do horsehide again, and she said it was doubtful.
Just came across this vintage Vanson Horsehide Enfield Jacket this morning at the flea market.
Super excited to find such a rare beast out in the wild...and unexpected. The hide is incredibly heavy, and has an element of red in the brown. Riri zips which, I believe, indicates an earlier version...
