Hi Folks,
I'm currently writing a short story set in the early 1930s/late 1920s on a ship in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
I'm thinking of including a captain's ball in the story, but I have questions about this.
For those who don't know, a Captain's Ball is a formal dinner and...
Hey folks,
It occurred to me and KirkH that no thread exists on the Fedora Lounge for the display of vintage and antique writing instruments and associated paraphernalia. A search produced plenty of threads about fountain pens and writing, but no thread along the lines of the "Show us...
It's not much, but if you wish, then here we are:
That's my desk with my vintage desk-blotter, rocker-blotter, antique inkwell, my everyday-carry pocketwatch and...the pen. It has a different nib in it since I took this photo, but that doesn't matter.
The pen I've been using for the past few days is...a dip-pen actually.
A bone-shafted antique that I bought at the flea-market last year. I'm using it to write my latest story.
Thanks!
Yes, a lot of famous writers started out that way - Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Charles Dickens among them.
Problem is, I can't find many of the same such magazines/journals here in Australia. I have found one, but I'll need to tailor my writing a bit to fit it into their parameters...
I just watched an episode of the 1970s series of Lord Peter Wimsey.
I confess to an unmanly squeal at the sight of one of my favourite actors.
The great, late David Langton (of 'Upstairs, Downstairs' fame). He was playing LPW's older brother, the Duke of Denver.
Today, with the help of a YouTube video, I finally tied my first ever bowtie! Using the blue one I bought (see the posts above), I adjusted the length and gave it a shot. Third time was the charm and I pulled it off with satisfactory and proud results. Photographic documentation of my success...
I never thought I'd look good in a bowler. I don't own one, as a result. The closest thing I have is a black homburg. Haven't found occasion to wear that one in public yet, either...
The bowler is a weird hat. It's the one hat that can look classy or crass at the same time. A guy dressed to...
I don't think that's it! I bought them mostly because I thought they were curious. Originally I thought they might be sock-suspenders...but then for that, you'd need the leg-bands...What are they?
I'm inclined to think that they MIGHT be shirt-garters/shirt-stays...but they look far too short...
I bought these today at the local thrift-shop for the heady price of $2.
But...what the hell are they?
Sock-suspenders? Shirt-stays? Sleeveholderupperers?
From what I've seen of submitting pieces to magazines and journals, you're paid if the article is accepted and published. But you don't get paid for merely submitting it.
Right now, I wish I could find somewhere to send my stories. Problem is, the word-lengths are an issue. I wonder if they'd...
