Just an FYI for Loungers: in recent correspondence with Trudi and Naomi at The Hattery I discovered that the Taupe Fawn Camp Draft is out of stock until January 2020.
Now commence re-prioritizing the "to-buy" hat list. ;)
The crown of the Tawny Fawn is just fine, but the brim is proving to be a bearcat. It is wonky at best, but I'm working it into submission. It isn't worth returning, and I see the fine-shaping as a challenge, but I may let The Hattery know that "one slipped by."
What I'm referring to...
Received the two Fed IVs, Moonstone and Tawny Fawn. They came packaged even more thoroughly than my last 2-hat order from The Hattery. I worked the crowns of both hats to my satisfaction. I suffered some spiderwebbing in the ditch of both, as you can see in the pics of my soft-diamond from...
The Tawny Fawn and Moonstone Fed IVs are due to arrive from Down Under today, or maybe tomorrow. Kind of anxious to receive them, as you can imagine. My hands gained a little more experience working the crease into my Black Fed IV, so the shaping of these two new hats could go quick and...
I keep looking at the DM Adventurer in Moonstone. I like the ribbon and bow treatment against the Moonstone. If I could only figure out what it looked like without that Aussie downward swoop in the back brim...
Yes, I'm going to reference this years-old post too. Reason being I'm interested in the work you did on the brim of your DM Adventurer. The downturn in the back brim is largely what keeps me away from this hat, but you seem to have rectified that issue. Did it take more than steam and the...
That's exactly what I thought when I pulled the hat out of the box! A LOT more green than I expected.
Funny thing is, that green hat seems to look good with just about every color in my wardrobe. Surprisingly versatile!
Thank you for the compliment on my Silver Belly CD! Interesting that you're having trouble with the brim on your Heritage Silver Belly CD - I am still trying to get my Heritage Moonstone CD's brim to behave consistently. I had the opposite issue: not enough flange... just too flat. I very...
These pics went to the Camp Draft thread as well, but here are the first 3 of my 7 Akubras, the Camp Drafts. Bluegrass Green, Moonstone (Camp Draft Deluxe), and Silver Belly.
While I own Stylemasters and Camp Drafts, they are not in the colors you seek, so I cannot post a true side-by-side pic. My thought is that even a B/W pic of the two makes of hat side-by-side would show how different the shapes are. The straighter, taller crown and narrow ribbon of the Camp...
My experience has been that the sweat in all of my Akubras has gotten cozy with my skull after some wear, but I hesitate to describe this as shrinkage in the hat. My head is stubbornly between sizes, and a 58 is ALMOST snug enough to wear - thus, the felt strips go under the sweat initially...
Thank you for the links! I forced my will upon my black Fed IV and actually got the crown the way I want it. With that done, the look of the dimensional brim has improved. I've covered the "needs" for now, and moving onto "wants."
