Would have been US Army hat in 1966.
First one as a civilian was my jungle hat that I wore in RVN.
Ironically I lost it when I left it in a Boston theatre after watching MASH.

It seems that the crown is just a bit low. I have the same issue with my Stetson Pawnee.
I like the hat so over time I've just gotten used to the touch.
When I look back at pictures of my high crowned western hats in the 70's and 80's a little touch isn't so bad.
I do always wear my western hats when out dancing, but other than that I pretty much wear what I want when I want including a Bailey marine colored Suntino when I'm on the tractor.
As a seller I have found that black fedoras are not very popular.
