Well, still dining alone for Thanksgiving. I've got the duck ordered from a place at Pike Place Market (plus one for the freezer).
Looks like I'll share the prime rib on Christmas, though. Ex-fiancée is moving in.
I love the Hurricane! Fascinating construction, and a seriously overlooked aircraft in the Battle of Britain. The Spitfire is still my favourite, but if I had the means to build a collection I'd get the Hurricane first because it's a more forgiving plane. (OK, I'd get a Harvard or an SNJ...
My first Thanksgiving...
... that I cooked.
It was Thanksgiving day, I was ten years old, and mom was horribly sick with flu. WHAT??? No Thanksgiving? Johnny to the rescue! I don't remember the details, but I do remember making several trips to mom's bedroom to ask her questions. I roasted...
'Eating the elephant' is exactly how I feel most years. You know how long it takes for one guy to eat a turkey two slices at a time? Or a four and half pound prime rib? Aiyiyiyiyi...
I get through it eventually, though. :D
I see what happened. The url you used in your first attempt was to a webpage, not the image. Right-click on the image and choose 'Copy image address' (or 'Open in a new window' and copy the url from the address box).
Amen! :D OK, sometimes I could use a sou chef to do the chopping and such. But I'm very protective of my cookware! (Besides, when there are people here I get to get all of the compliments. You know how pilots are with their egos. Even lapsed ones. ;) )
This first holiday season is going to be the hardest for you. But try not to be too sad, for your 12-year-old's sake at least. Twelve is a vulnerable age. Holiday rituals are important to kids. (I've heard -- I haven't any.)
I'm from L.A., myself. Know my neighbours? Perish the...
shopgirl61, it was starting to get late last night, and I was distracted by a documentary on WWI, arguing with a troll on another message board, and was otherwise distracted. I fear I merely skimmed this paragraph. Now that I've had some sleep and am less distracted, please let me offer...
I'm thinking of roasting a duck this year. It takes me way too long to eat even the smallest turkey. Other than that, I'll probably just watch movies and hang out on the Internet.
I've always liked the K-models. They have the 150 hp Lycoming four (as opposed to the 145 hp Continental six), and they still had the spring steel main gear. The tubular mains on the later models (along with the longer tail strake) made the aircraft look sleeker. They kind of sat back on the...
This particular airplane has a place in my heart. It's a 1970 Cessna 172K Skyhawk. It's the plane I got my fixed-wing license in. The photo was taken before dad bought it in 1976.
The X-Files episode 'Improbable' (the one with Burt Reynolds) featured a soundtrack from Karl Zéro's Music For Cabriolets And Otros Tipos De Vehiculos. I was hooked. You can read the linked review, but basically it's c.1960 Cha-Cha music -- with a wacky French twist. Sadly, the CD is OOP --...
That's an American 'Green Beret' patch. The words on the pin mean 'To free the oppressed.'
ADDITIONAL: I want to say it's the 5th Special Forces Group. Their beret flash is black (Cite) but their oval insignia has the stripes.
Looks like a Stearman to me.
But it would take another view (a profile would be good) for me to be sure one way or the other.
You don't happen to remember the N-number, do you?
EDIT: I type too slowly. Diamondback beat me to it.
Your favourite car(s)
I seem to have hijacked the Flying Boots thread, with my comment about someone's mention of an MG. So I thought I'd start a new thread about cars. I know there's a 'Display your car' thread, but this is more in the spirit of the 'What's your favourite aircraft' thread...
:offtopic: Most of the parts came from Moss Motors (link to seats). That's where the upholstery and carpet came from. One thing about the upholstery kit: The trim around the top, including the rear of the cockpit and the caps at the top of the doors, were red. My first '66 MGB (a...
