    Is Steve Delk still alive?

I wish I could have found out. I paid for a hat from him in 2007, and he never delivered.

    Flight/Aviator Jacket Recommendation?

I have a goatskin Navy G-1 from Gibson & Barnes. I grew up in San Diego, and spent a lot of time at NAS (now MCAS) Miramar. Pilots from Miramar often bought G-1s from Flightsuits, Ltd. (the former name of G&B); and if they're good enough for them, they're good enough for me! I am completely...

ALL REPRO R.A.F. Irvin type jackets

I have a Cockpit Irvin jacket. I never wear it. I think I've worn it only two or three times. Very nice jacket for what it is, but I prefer something a bit more authentic. Right now I have a WPG Irvin, and I like it very much -- except for the sleeve zips. They won't stay zipped down...

    Just got my SECOND Aero...

I find my WPG one to be rather bulky as well. I'm a big guy, but I'm getting smaller. It seems to get more pliable the more I wear it, and no longer feel as if my arms are pinned when I'm driving. We need some snow up here. As a SoCal/L.A. native, I should be freezing my bum off up here in...

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

I'll post some photos of the zips, as well as the rest of the jacket. The photos are large, so I'm just going to post links rather than clutter up the thread. Right sleeve zip, 'closed' Right sleeve zip, open Main zip; 3" right side unattached, 4" left side missing Left sleeve zip...

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

Interesting. I didn't know that could happen. I've always thought the teeth would be the component that becomes worn.

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

I'm not sure what that would do. The pull slides freely in both directions. It's just that when it's 'zipped closed', the part that is supposed to be closed isn't.

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

The right sleeve zip is intact, only the teeth do not engage. That is, when the slider is pulled down it's still open above it. About 3 inches of the bottom of the right side of the main zip have become detached from its tape. About 4 inches of the left side of the main zip are missing...

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

Ordinarily I'd agree that original zips are the only way to go. But I'm pretty sure I paid too much for the jacket (£435 -- more than $700 -- including shipping, back in 2010), and an additional £200 for original zips is a little too dear. And unless I reduce the width of my shoulders, I can't...

Thanks. I've sent an email to GWLCC.

    Replacement zips for Irvin jacket

I have an original Coastal Command Irvin jacket that needs all three zips. I don't need to fins original zips for it, but I'd like it to be as authentic as is reasonably possible. Does anyone know where I can buy 'close enough' replacement zips? I live in the U.S.

    MA-1 jackets

When I was a kid an F-4 pilot from NAS Miramar gave me a WEP jacket. I still have it. When it needed to be cleaned, my mom's boyfriend loaned me his (issue) MA-1. I was appalled! A good 'Navy brat' wearing an Air Force flight jacket? But I wore it anyway. I have a few MA-1s, but I almost...

It depends on the warbird. Not many people have $2 million for a P-51 -- let alone the cost of owning and flying it, but a T-6/SNJ/Harvard can be had for half the cost of a new Skyhawk. Or there are WWII observation/liaison planes (e.g., Piper, Stinson).

Vintage Luscombes flock to Vinland Valley When I was in high school a classmate said he wanted to get an old Luscombe. I wonder if he ever got it?

    Vintage airplanes

Then do! :) Flying ain't cheap -- as I found out when I was laid off and had a new mortgage -- but it can be affordable. You'll need a private pilot certificate to fly the planes in the OP, but if you don't mind newer aircraft you can get a Recreational or Sport license. And you don't have...
