I think the jacket fits great. But a heavy weight Schott is a tough first jacket. It’s not going to be comfortable ‘til you’ve broken it in, and that’s going to take some time.
A few years ago, many of the posts were about how to speed up the break in process (with much debate if it should be...
Here's what I decided to go with:
Last: HNW Moderate Arch
Boot Height: 10''
Top Design: Rolled
Hardware Configuration: Both Buckles
Leather Style: 1964 Brown All Roughout (7-8oz)
Boot Height: 10"
Pull Loop: No
Toe Structure: Celastic
Toe Heel Stack: Moderate (3/8"-1/2" Leather Stack)...
What did you decide for last, heel stack, heel profile, and toe structure?
I actually kind of like the full Vibram sole better, and may skip the Biltrite sole.
Here are the two pics from the website I sent them, and their response:
It is 1964 medium brown both smooth and roughout, the tan is much lighter! I cannot determine the last with a photo, it was likely HNW but I don't know for sure. It has a block heel and a moderate height heel stack
So I'm looking at placing an order. I'm just having trouble selecting the options from their custom menu. It's not abundantly clear which options go with the sample boots pictured. I've sent them an email.
I didn't realize Nick's made these! I've had my eye on a pair, especially since I've seen @dublinprem 's awesome Clinch pair. I thought about going with the ShipJohn Wescos, but wasn't up to dealing with figuring out the fit. But since I already know my Nick's size...
I have a couple suede jackets that I don’t really wear. With leather, I feel like it wears in. Maybe I just need to adjust my expectations, but I’m worried suede will get stained and look bad. I think rough out cow seems to wear better than goat suede, but I do like how soft and light it is.
I’m working on an order with Thurston Bros. I like the camo lining, and was thinking of going with the Cuoio, but then I thought the other colors looked better. I guess it doesn’t really matter though, right?
If they had done a 503, I might have jumped on it. But I do think it’s respectable that they did something more unique.
This also isn’t a horrible marketing strategy… While scanning their site, I was reminded of a few of their jackets on my wish list, and also discovered the P230. Has that...
I decided it was time to pay some attention to my Mr Freedom jacket. I hate the anemic starting color, so I left it out in a sunny spot in my living room. I didn’t want to do anything more drastic than that (like conditioning it).
After about a week and a half, I can actually see some change...

These limited edition tankers from Nick's are half the price of the Eastman/Lofgrens. Ultimately, I decided to just save my nickels for the Lofgrens that I really want!
My initial thoughts were positive... It's a beautiful leather, the front looks good. And Schott has upped their product image game.
It's an interesting choice to have a belt but no epaulets, where the stars are normally found. Their "clean" jackets usually have no belt and no epaulets, and...
I have an older Aero with a cotton lining that looks clean, but is pretty worn. The jacket also has that distinctive used clothing smell. I haven’t gone as far as ozoning it, but the thought just occurred to me: Maybe it’s the lining.
So my question is: How much of that odor is absorbed by the...
