Matt, excellent and congrats again!! I am even more happy that fits you instead! I also like the old style crease!
And an interesting side note: that other VEB was also listed as 56 and was actually a 59, I know because it belonged to me (PanosChris ;) ) Now, I believe Steve in Denmark still...
Fantastic line up Stefan! So hard to choose a favourite, I am leaning towards the Tirard and the Mallory, I think, but I might change later ;) all gorgeous
A rather risky but well worth it buy, after all. Ecuyer & Thomas in black velour/velvet made for Marchand Freres. Listed as 55, marked 57 and fitting as 56, bingo!!
I had a hard time photographing that one, it rather absorbs light than reflecting it, but the velour quality is...
Another local find. Hans H. Holm top hat. That's the first one I find using the store logo on the liner. I know it was also a hattefabrikk, but unsure whether toppers could be made in house too. I have seen several, mostly English and French, imported though. Size is a foul 57 and it should date...
Wilke, Homburg in black, I found locally. Marked size 59, but probably a bit bigger than that. Unfortunately no liner or crown patch on this one and neither any clear evidence of them once existing actually, stitches or glue. Evidence for a broken wind cord is concrete.
Even more...
Always nice to see Huckel velours. Pity about the sweatband and the missing label. I am wondering if the "extra" would have been mentioned on the label too, but we'll never know :(
Joe, my condolences.
I don't have anything to add to what Matt and Stefan said, I am not so into UK hats either. My gut feeling for that one is also 40s and early post war. But is quite hard to say for sure since as mentioned, many EU makers reused the old materials and reproduced the old...
Steve thank you!! Unlike the listing and what I initially thought, it's indeed an older one! Even if the source is not known, the velour on that one is really fantastic!
That one has just arrived. FGM Bayerland in black velour. I can't really speak highly enough of the felt and velour quality. Unfortunately no paper label :(
Another one of these local gets for my fellow loungers. Coronation, size 59, in grey. As liner suggests, "Honour & Dignity" ;)
Same label as many others I have found here, though this one was initially sold in another city (Bergen), probably a common distributor in Norway.
This Barbisio in velour/velvet arrived this week. It could pass as a black one, but next to a true black, has a rather very dark brown/purplish hue. The liner has me confused. I initially thought it's an early one, but the plastic remainders on the onion ring, the hat style and the...
