I was somewhat mistaken about the water coming straight down.
But in any event, his head stayed relatively dry.
The guy in the video with the garden hose didn’t take in any significant water through the vents, but there was no significant wind.

On the other hand, some of us unenlightened folks just buy a hat, jam it on our head, and wear it until it disintegrates.
Then we buy another hat and start again.

Since you alluded to “knowing one’s place” word once reached me that my boss had remarked to a third party that I “didn’t seem to be as servile” as most in my position.
Evidently I didn’t know my place.
This was more than 60 years ago, and I haven’t forgotten it. (He’s dead now)
Going way back to the beginning of the thread, the best way to distress a hat is to wear and use it.
The result will be worlds above anything done with powders, etc.
